ok so i want a muffler that sounds nice, but at same time i can still talk over it without screaming.... i just put stock all back on and about to put a high flow cat convt on, since the cat convt has a hole in it. was suggested to use magnaflow http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2041763&postcount=4 any other suggestions?
working with a budget

Muffler

Hi Tommy here.
As an ex midas muffler man. (9 yrs.) I haven't worked on muffler's since 86.
If you go to them they should be able to suggest one for you. Hope this helps,Tommy.

i had thought about a flowmaster series 50 delta flow with one in and 2 out .i like a performance muffler sound but nothing that will piss the neighbors off and plus sound like a ricer trying to make a civic sound like a porsche.they are about he same price as the 40's ruffley i think around $85-100 .

Back when I was at midas they had what was called a "Glass pack", Do not get anything close 2 that. Very, Very loud . I think a flow master was close 2 medium sound.

Both of my Explorers have flowmaster, 40 series I think. The '91 has a full pipe, the '92 dumps just before the rear axle. I like the sound of both. They are loud when you stand on it, but have a good rumble at idle. The '92 has the muffler set farther back, and it has less of the highway drone than the '91.

hey does anyone know what the dimensions of our muffler are? if not, ill crawl under and get em, just trying to avoid that. Im running all stock.

Not sure about the stock dimensions, but there's plenty of room under there if you plan on doing a single muffler.

I have the 40 Series Flowmaster, single in single out, with 2" piping before/after. While it's not as loud as I'd like, it's still loud enough to hear if I hop on it. It'd be perfect for someone looking for an improved sound, but not deafening. I'm upgrading to 2.25" piping in the spring, and possibly dual tips.

Go on youtube, do some searching for Explorer Exhaust, and you'll come across plenty of clips, just pick the one you like, and figure out what they did. One of the best 4.0L exhaust i've heard to date, is by Hunterdan.

yeah i searched google videos a while back and heard some, but youtube and other clips arent always the best sound quality, im just looking for something you can hear, but still hear music and talk over it.... ive heard a bit on the 40 series, probably go with that one
