jon, do you have any pics of your truck? we have the same thing, i want to see what youve done to yours! anyway, it looks like im going to get the glasspack WITHOUT the Y pipe, Monro muffler/brake says they can get a dual in glasspack, and i will just run 2.5 single pipe out the back in the stock location. i dont have $350 to spend!!

MONOCHROMOUS, I live in Washington and the place i went to is right over the bridge in Chocowinity, maybe a mile from Washington's city limits. Quality Automotive is one of the bestor the best muffler places in around the area. They are cheap and are good. 50 or so dollars for a flowmaster and 20 dollars to install isn't that bad! especially when it takes them 20 minutes!

can anyone give me a model number for the flowmaster mufflers?? 40 and 50 series if possible, so i can take the number to my muffler shop and tell them exactly what i want!! and you people with the flowmasters, are you using the stock 2 inch pipe after them? or have you gone larger, and is there THAT much of a difference??

I just used the stock pipe. I didn't see any reason going larger unless you have a V8. If I had a V8 i'd get larger pipe and run duals.

what advantages have you noticed with the flowmaster? sound, performance? and do you have a 40 or a 50

Mine's a 50. I have a noticed a improvement in sound, low end torque and better top end acceleration. I just put a 3in. chrome tip on the end of the pipe and left it in stick location. Looks good to me with it coming out the side, I am not much on the duals in an explorer personally, besides the fact teh shackles are in the way.

The advantage to new exhaust pipe is if you get "Mandrel bent" pipes, and while you're having them bent, it doesn't cost any more to go 2 1/2" pipe. Thats 1/2 to 1" larger than stock depending on where you measure on the old pipes. As you may know, mandrel bent pipes keep the 2'1/2 inch diameter constant, even in the bends, while the press bent stock pipes get real narrow in the bends causing restrictions. I agree that the V6 doesn't need as much dia. as the V8, so 3" would be a waste, but the 2-1/2" really helps over stock because of the restricting bends.
