Multiple suspension noises

they wanted to continue the fixing process, so I told them that they can do whatever they like that I was going to do the lemon law...that's when they stopped me right away and said that they would buy it back from me.
I thought lemon law is buy back. What is the difference between the lemon law and buy back then?

Lemon law goes through officials and branded a Lemon. If Ford voluntarily buys it back, it doesnt get branded a lemon. They can fix it and sell it as used.

Very helpful information, thank you.

and also lemon law cost ford more money with lawyers and other fees .

Can anyone post a video clip of the sound of this ABS clanking? I hear mine but it is at a very slow speeds on a very small bumps there is some "clunking like" from the suspension components.

Well, I took the car in for a second time, told them to keep it long enough to solve the problem. They had it for three days and gave up. They literally took the front end apart, to include body parts and didn't find a thing. They agree the noise is there but they can't find it. I've got the car back now pending dealer tech consultation with Ford. If there is no resolution the dealer is willing to pursue a buyback.

I spend a couple of hours discussing my options with the dealer, but I don't see a way out of this short of ignoring the noise. I don't want to give up the horsepower, the cargo space and the size of the Explorer. Expedition, too big, F150 too big, Edge, too small, and I don't want to buy back into a 2019, even if I could find something.

All I can say at this point is that I'm extremely disappointed in my choice and blame myself for not spending more time on the Forum before making a decision. I think I would have delayed my purchase to a later date after Ford cleaned up its act.

I’m in a similar situation. 27 days in the shop as of today and still no answers. On my last call with Ford customer support earlier this week, I requested a buyback and it is currently under review. I don’t want a different vehicle either. There isn’t a comparable option in the class as far as hp, room, and looks are concerned. I won’t take a replacement (if given the option) knowing this problem is likely to persist. Not sure which vehicle we will turn to as an option. Guess I better start looking!

There are many owners who do not have this problem. I have almost 7,000 miles on mine and don't have it. There is no way Ford is buying back these vehicles and not having engineering figure it out. I'm confident there will be a TSB or SSM on it. It isn't a safety issue.. nobody has stated anything in regards to the vehicle driving inappropriately... it's just an audible noise that you hear. You are free to do what you want as it is your dime but to say you'll likely have the same noise on another would be incorrect. Go drive one on the lot and see if it happens.

Yes, I need to go drive a few and listen for the noise. I’m glad to hear it isn’t all of them. This really is a great vehicle and finding one without the noise would be ideal and would save me having to settle for something less or spend a lot more to find something comparable!

I think you'll find that the Aviator and Explorer are very close in most aspects.

The techs worked three days trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. In the process they took two 2020 all-wheel Explorers from the new car lot and discovered the same noise. This was their first serious attempt to find the problem. Previous attempts included the usual trip around the block. One tech says that once you hear the noise it's easy to identify and then you hear it all the time.

It would be wrong to assume I'm *****ing about Ford. My first four wheel Ford was a 68' Bronco and I've owned every generation of Explorer so it's not like this is my first experience with Fords. None of the previous vehicles was perfect and I've suffered my share of recalls. This time it's different. To be clear, It's the vehicle, not the company.

As an aside, at one point we drove SAABs. It was a real love-hate relationship. On the first trip to the shop we had a list of 23 items for repair or fix. But we loved those cars just like we love the Explorers, and I don't think we've had 23 total serious repair items on our Fords going back to 1968.

It's true. This noise is not a safety issue so it's unlikely Ford will be taking them back, at least not mine. The bottom line, I guess, is that the vehicle it not nearly the build quality of the series five and even without the noise it doesn't measure up to "Ford One" You gotta really love Fords to pay $60K for the latest version.

Blwnsmoke is right. "Go drive one on the lot and see if it happens" but take it off the lot for a real test drive, not just down the freeway and around the block. Ya, and it's your dime so be careful what you wish for.

Repurchase approved by Ford after 30 days in the shop. Now just waiting for the paperwork to go through. Went and drove 2 more STs and heard the noise, so I’m not taking a chance on a replacement. Bummed, but very happy with how Ford has handled this.

I've been advised by the tech working on my Platinum that he has talked to Ford reps and that they are aware of the issue and working on a solution. He's also been instructed stop and further efforts to fix the problem. That makes sense. No need to spend more time trying to solve the problem if Ford is really trying to find a fix. A buyback is enticing but I'm not ready to change brands, at least not yet.

Was only a matter of time....

OK, picked up my ST ( standard brakes, tech package ) on 9/22/19 at the dealer. Have about 1600 miles on it.....I now have the suspension noise ( or what ever it is ) that some folks have talked about. I have not contacted my dealer as of yet. Am planning to go see them next week to see about the seat bracket recall. Will mention " the noise " to them then. Will pay close attention to this thread and see what develops.

Ok... so I’ll start off with a question... anyone know how to disable the active noise cancellation?

ive been mulling over this noise and it’s weird nature for a while... can’t replicate it sitting still (I could on a previous car with strut issue) can only hear it under a certain speed.... and only small bumps / rough pavement and it got me thinking that it sounds like an artifact from some system that has rules.... like speed... so I thought it may be advance track, and turned that off... but same noise. Then I got to thinking about noise cancelling and how I can get a similar one off noise on my noise canceling headphones if not seated right.... and got to wondering if the active noise canceling could just be slow to react to the rumbling... especially if uneven from different tires... and be causing the sound.

Thoughts?

I was unable to find anything in the Manual regarding 'Active Noise Cancellation'. Searched "active" and "noise" and "cancel, cancellation" and nothing came up in regards to your question. The following is all I could find but likely doesn't apply to what you are after.

Tampering With a Noise Control
System

Federal laws prohibit the following acts:
• Removal or rendering inoperative by
any person other than for purposes of
maintenance.

Is that Canadian Law?

I believe these are 2 totally different things. The Explorer has a noise canceling system that plays certain frequencies to cancel out other frequencies for a quieter ride.

Peter, I believe your post refers more to modifying noise systems with the exhaust (making vehicles louder).

It's a state law and the lemon laws vary state to state. That's my impression
