Mustang 8.8 vs Explorer 8.8

Does anyone know if the 8.8 Mustang LSD 31 spline and the Explorer 8.8 LSD 31spline internal differential parts (specifically the side gears) are interchangeable?

I'm getting ready to dig into the rear diff on my '01 ST to diagnosis a noise. A mechanic friend of mine listened to it and he thinks it's likely the side (AKA spider) gears. He said it will be obvious once I pull the diff cover.

I just checked the RA "compatibility tool" and it appears all the 8.8's use the same spider gear set.

They are interchangeable.

Yup, I just put an Explorer 31 spline carrier into my 2000 Mustang GT. It fits.
