Did you jack it up, or just spin the tires in snow/ mud/ w/e? Given the nature of an open differential, its gonna send the power to the tire that will turn easier, hence only one wheel spinning.

i took it in the mud. the mud was so deep, that it covered the nerf bars. there was mud slung all on the side of the passenger side. but none on the drivers side. i mean it looked totally clean.

Your 4x4 is working.

With an open front differential the wheel that slips will get 100% of the power and you are stuck

4x4 does not = 4 wheels turn, it = 1 tire on both axles will get the power.

You need a front locker if you want both tires to spin in 4wd all the time

Ditto. With an open diff, power will always go to the tire with the least traction. If the 4wd wasn't working, neither front wheel would have been turning.

Welcome to how open diff 4x4s operate.. As the others have already stated you'd need a Limited slip, or locking differential to have both wheels spin at the same time..
