Hi, newbie here I am having a problem with My 92' Explorer I have auto locking hubs the 4x4 engages fine in high and low range but when I make a hard right or left turn its like something is causing it to bind up to the point of killing the engine. Its something like if you were trying to stand on the brake pedal and then trying to drive it at the same time. Anyone have any thoughts about what I should look at first?

Are you making the sharp turns on asphalt or other high traction surface? If so the binding is normal. The 4x4 system on explorers is a part time system designed for low traction surfaces- mud, snow, sand etc. There is no center differential, when you make a sharp turn all four wheels travel in a different arc and therefore at different speeds. The front and rear diffs allow variation in speed side to side, but with no center diff to allow front to rear speed varation the binding occurs. I think everyone has had their truck in 4x4 at one time or another and tried to make a turn and suddenly felt the front end binding up because they had more traction than they thought, at that point you should get out of 4x4 before you break something.
