I thought I'd post this here as well as the Welcome new members thread.
First week of December I purchased this 96 Sport.
Purchased from original owner 83 years old. He was in a fender bender and his family took his license away.
Needed a Rt fender, headlight mounting panel, rt headlight and turn light, grille, bumper, fog light. Air bags not blown. Corner of the hood is bent a bit. He ran into a gas pump as he was pulling into the station. His insurance company totaled it and he bought it back from them. The car sat in his garage for 2 years before I purchased it.
I don't know why the ins co totaled it. I guess labor to repair pushed costs over the edge.
Has 49,574 miles. Tires have less than 2000 miles on them.
Interior is NEW. He put seat covers on it the day he purchased it. By looks of things, the rear seat was kept folded down all the time. The rear cargo area has the Ford cargo mat that goes up the back of the rear seat.
Has original floor mats along with those plastic floor trays on top.
Most unusual of all, the plastic with ford part number from the factory is still on the carpet on the front floor.
He has magnetic "door ding" protectors with it. Prime Designs bug deflector on it. And an "old man" convex sticky mirror on the driver rear view mirror.
According to all the stickers I found in the owners manual folder, he had the oil changed every 6 months and used synthetic.
Starts and runs great. I drove it home in a snow storm. The auto 4x4 worked fine.
Doing a little work every night. Still waiting on a grille and the fog lights. I've put on a new fender and bumper. I guess I am lucky that there is no frame damage. The radiator support panel and whole front end was pushed over about 1/2 inch. I was able to loosen the front radiator support bolts and pull the front back into alignment. I could see where the front slid over top of the bushings and mounts. Hood alignment is good. Door alignment is spot on, with even gaps. I didn't have to touch the doors.
This Sport is just like the 97 Sport my mom leased for 2 years. I loved that X. Her's had the SOHC motor and she did have trouble with ticking and noises from the day it was new. The dealer did some work on it, but since it was a Red Carpet lease, we didn't worry.
I liked the power of the SOHC but I think in the end the OHV is less complex and more reliable. That's my opinion as a mechanic since 1983.
I Paid $1500 for it and will have another $400 into it once it's done.
