I am really new at this. I searched for airbox messages and I really couldn't understand exactly where the thing is. Can someone please tell me from this pic. Is the air cleaner housing (#2) the same thing as the airbox? Thanks for helping me out because I am really stupid.

BTW, I have a '97 Explorer V6 SOHC (I know this isn't a SOHC engine but I think it works).

Hi punisher,
You are correct. #2 is the "airbox". you might try searching for "air filter", "K&N", or "KKM" there are lots of threads about it.

Heh... you sound like me when I first started. I couldnt even figure out how to open the thing up...

Punisher, the pic you posted is of the 91-94 engine bay. In 95+'s, the airbox is located behind the passenger headlight:

That's my oversized K&N Filter.

Guys, I disagree with your use of the term 'stupid'. Your not stupid, your ignorant. But, now that you know, your no longer ingnorant. Stupid is for people who don't want to know, ignorant is for people who don't know, but ask. We are all guilty of both. :) Ok, I'm now shutting up.
