My Automatic Tranny keeps Slipping!!!

Hi!! my 94 XLT (72000 miles) has the factory auto tranny and like it keeps losing grip of the gears at stop lights and like when the revs get past 2500 rpm it like losses the gear and i have to loet it go down and then it will catch the gear causing the entire truck to shutter. not only is it embarrasing, but i cant imagine it is to good fot the reare end, tires, and tranny. Please help me on fixing this situation!!!

How is the tranny fluid? Is it burnt? Is it low? When was the last time it was changed? My guess is that your tranny is approaching the end of its life cause thats what mine did before it died.
 






I would drive it to a tranny shop before you have to have it towed. Sorry, but I am afrade its dying.

My tranny fluid level is fine, but it was flushed at 60000 so could it be burnt (? dont know how to tell) damn I dont want to losed my tranny cause that is what like a week at any shop bgetting it put back in??? please help me
 






Mine used to to exactly the same thing.. I went to check the tranny fluid and it was low. I put about a half quart in and it did fine for 2 weeks afterwards. Then it started slipping again..checked the fuild, was low again, put another half quart in and did fine for 2-3 weeks. Then it started slipping AGAIN, so I took it to a local shop and he replaced the tranny fluid filter and checked the fluid in it. He said everything was fine and should be running ok. As soon as I pulled out of the shops road, it slipped, lol. But it hasn't slipped since and it's been a couple weeks since and I havn't had to add any fluid or anything to it either.

I got 153k miles on it. Dunno if the previous owner has had any tranny work on it or anything, but it's been fine other then what I just mentioned. And I drive it more than ever now, about 80-90 miles a day to work and back and it drives great now... even though the friggin CEL never goes off. The local shop said he fixed it, that a hose was off of the EGR valve. It was fixed for about 5 days after I took it out of the shop, then the CEL started comin back on now and about as quick as it did before when I start driving. I dunno if the hose came back off or what.. any ideas?

One more prob..(sorry) my speedo is always jumping around and is very annoying cuz not only do I not know exactly how fast I'm goin, it makes a faint grinding noise from behind the speedo. The shop tried putting a new cable on it and it helped a lil bit, but it's still kinda bad. He said I I'd have to buy a whole new speedo and odometer and stuff for it and that it'd cost about $500! That's ludicris for a speedo glitch! What's the deal with this and what would it really cost to replace and fix??
 






You can get a speedo off ebay for cheap,you might have to reset the mileage to yours though:D
 






Ahhh... sweet! Found one for $50! lol..That's great, thanx a lot for the tip! Now hopefully my mom will let me use her credit card and let me pay her back for it, cuz I don't have any credit cards.

I think you need to find new shops...it sounds like you get the "5 miles or 5 minutes guarantee" :(

And Royal2k3.... It sound like your tranny is dying if the fluid is still full. You could try adding more fluid past the full level if it is getting really bad.
 






Take it in...

If its slipping that bad and the fluid level is fine take it in now for bands and soft part rebuild BEFORE the trans starts running too hot and you end up needing to replace hard parts. It will be much cheaper now than if you baby it and wait until you cant drive it.

Try and find a shop that has worked on the A4LD family before, a small shop where the ower is the builder is the best combo in My opinion- not a guarantee but a giood place to start if you can find one.

If you dont have a trans cooler get one.

Im gonna add more fluid cause it is now low and if it keeps slipping Im gonna take it in and see how bad it is. So I should got to a private shop and not a Ford Dealer?? Hope I didnt kill it oor on the verge of killing it. well g2g thanks for the help
