I jeeeeeeust rolled over 100k miles on my '99 SOHC. How long can i reasonably expect the timing chain tensioners to last. I've read practically every page of every thread on the subject, but material on how long the little buggers last is sparse.
Those of you who've had this problem, sound off: What was on the clock when you started noticing trouble, had it go completely pear-shaped, etc.
My current plan of attack is to wait another 7-9 months before I pull the motor out of the truck for the new timing parts, along with a healthy reseal from top to bottom, and new accesory parts (PS pump, AC compressor, Alternator, etc).
Thanks!

I had a 99 sport that had begun to do the strat up rattle at 148k, I opted for a used replacement. I dissassembled the one I removed and could not find any damage to indicate an impending disasster. but from what I understand it was 97s and 98s that had the problem. I dont think there is a real answer to your question, because it depends on alot of variables, including luck! Have you come across any threads regaurding fram oil filters? If not search for them its sound advice.

I think it would be different for everyone. I have a 97 sohc with 160,000 and no problems with this or my tranny........yet.

My 99 started doing it at about 75k. I now have just under 210K and the only problem is the ratteling. I will fix it someday... ;)
