I have had my ex for about a week now and after fixing a laundry list of things that needed repair after my 18 year old brother drove it for over a year with absolutley no serviceing i have noticed one prob that i really don't like. I have been out wheelin a couple times and every time you get the damn thing wet it runs like ****. I don't beleive it is sucking water but i am gonna check the aor filter in the morn. It starts buckking and missing and doesn't want to idle, but after 30 seconds or so of free revving in nuetral it seems to smooth right back out to normal. So tonight i was out playin in a very small puddle and the same thing happened....only this time when all was said and done my alt was not chaging. I will test it tomorrow at work to be fully sure its the alt. I know i need new plug wires. but what other things do you guys do to your ex's so they will liv through water????

I am gonna get my hands on some electrical connector goo and go through and do everything under the hood too ut what else should i do? Do you guys make or modify your intakes, like a snorkel?

Sorry for all the questions but i am very new to the explorers and the offroading. always been into streetracing and building hotrods.

Thanx
Jon

For the engine problem I would think it may be your alt. But I could be wrong. For other preperations towards playing in wate r I would extend you diff breathers up into the engine compartmnet. You dont want water in them. some people have made snorkels out of several things. I dont believe aany aftermarket companys make one for the explorer.

Yup, 3 main things for playing in water:

1) get rid of stock airbox to get rid of suction from under the bumper. A good unit is the KKM, www.kustomz.com
2) extend all drivetrain breather tubes
3) never stop when going through high water or turn the engine off when tailpipe is submerged.
