My Explorer horsepower project updates

Looks Great!

Where did you get your S/C? Can you just install a S/C kit with a stock X with duel exhaust or do you need other mods? I am seriously looking into one for my wife's 97 5.0L EB.

Your going to get some killer 1/4 mile times. You had better keep us S/C wannabe's up to date! :D

Mr XLT i got my supercharger for mine through a place on the net called www.superchargersonline.com They have a kit for your car too by the way. But the kits though they are very good still need a few extras which i will list after and why these are needed. First off you will need a chip or msd ignition set to retard your timing. i chose the chip because it can take care of other things too besides just timing. But serious draggers have the msd ignition too. then since you will be sucking more air you will need some way to monitor the bigger amount of air coming into the engine so you will need a bigger MAS, somewhere around 80 to 90 mm, i am getting a 90 mm, then you will need to get bigger injectors to support the larger amount of fuel you will need to deliver since you will be running boost. Since 36 lb/hr injectors are no longer that easy to get it seems i went with the 42 lb/hr injectors. Also as common sense would have it since you are delivering more fuel to the injectors you will need to increase the rate at which it flows so you will either need to get an inline fuel pump or get a bigger in tank pump, once again depending on how much boost you plan on running dictates what lph you will need to get. i went with 255 lph. And lastly since you will be geting to higher rpm's quicker due to more horsepower and torque you would be making you will need to install a shift kit which will both take advantage of your added power and also let the tranny shift before the engine rpm's hit the rev limiter. And also i just remembered, since you have a 97 which means you got the return fuel system it would be advisable to get an adjustable FPR too, even though these kits come with an FMU. If you got any other questions feel free to ask. Good luck. Robert

If you want i can give you a detailed list of everything that would be required to make it work and work right. I am sure i went overboard on a few things that i got but then again i plan on doing other things besides just a S/C with mine. Overall, and this is not meant for a deterrant but just to give you an idea of how much i will have spent to make mine work and work good. the total cost including the exhaust system should be coming close to $6000 total. but you got to undetstand this is for a racecharger setup not a streetcharger setup. And also i plan on installing all of my stuff with the assistance of a friend or two. Again i dont want to deter you from doing this but some people think they can just get the S/C kit and call it good, which usually doesnt work that way. i would say that for $5000 you could get a pretty bada$$ S/C setup that would make GT's look like pinto's. :D tell me what you want out of the S/C being on there and then i can tailor what i think you would need to what your application is.

Thats was a really dumb comment, Where the hell did that come from and why!?!

You want proof, X-Box lives about 5 minutes away from me, got that, and if he reads this I'm still waiting for that ride lol.

Need more proof, Troll, who should be in the 10's with his beast now, lives about 35 minutes from me or so in Miami and also runs at the Moroso Track thats about 45 minutes from my family's lakehouse and 45 minutes from my house, I can attest to that, I had the videos of him running at Moroso in the 11's.

I have talked to Rocket through email/pm's on numerous occasions, and he has been planning on these mods for a very long time. He already has all the parts to be installed, yet thats BS:rolleyes:

I don't mean to be an ass, just have no idea where you came off calling BS on legit guys.

Still want to raise BS?

Hey thanks Saleen. Yeah you call my thread BS why dont you just not post here!!!! All the things that were talked about are true. If you want i can send you a picture of me standing in front of my charger that i have with a sign saying somtthing to you or to all people who doubt. and as for Troll, well hell he even has a video of his doing 11's at the track. And Dom a.k.a. X-box. well lets see Dan Rotolante which is the co-builder of Troll and Bill the other builder/owner of Troll personally helped Dom put some of the things in his truck. So which of this again like Saleenexp is BD? Please tell me so we can clarify. Or unless you were just hating? The only thing that is BS is the fact that it is taking so long to round up all the parts to make my install go as smooth as i want. But since i got my order into Dan Rotolante (yes Trolls co-builder) and once he programs my chip then he will be able to send it and my other parts to me and then i can install and get a good dyno tune done. You know what? I am goint to take a picture of myself with something for ya to prove to your doubting self that it isnt BS. Though i dont really feel the need to prove myself toya i think it will be fun to put you in your place. :D

HEHEHE THIS IS GONNA BE FUNNY!!!!!!

Yep here i am posing with my Powerdyne XB-1A charger and a little custom sign too. Lol. I think it is quite funny myself. Lol.

Thats not COOL!!!

Yeah me too. I told myself when i started this project that i would be well done by now. but i kept running into delays here and there. But now that i got my last main order in i can go ahead and install after i get the parts and see where i stand. By my estimates i should be putting right about 300 hp to the ground. So that should be good for mid 14's in the 1/4 mile. And then once i get my wet nitrous kit (ended up having to return the other one) i will be putting myself into the low 13's and maybe 12's if i decided to go with some new light rims and slicks. It all depends. right now i will be happy with mid 14's. Cause then all it is is installing the N20 kit and tunng for that and that is it. Then i can invest my money in other things. Nahhhh i will keep dumping it into this actually. Though i would like to get a 5.0 95 Gt mustang manual and build a 347 for the Explorer and swap the old 5.0 out of my X into the stang. But that will be a looooooong time down the road. God i cannot wait to get this charger in!!!!!! I am going insane!!! I see all these GT's running around here and i want to challenge them sooo bad but i cannot back it up yet. Well i will run a 98 Gt as long as it isnt modded. I can almost stay with one of those. Pretty close race till we hit 3rd then he takes off a little bit from me and pulls me by about 3/4 car length till 90.

Sorry Don

I think i know why you said that and i usualy would agree with you that arguing things over forums is childish at best. But i had a point to make. That point being that maybe before posting something kind of dumb after only 33 posts here that maybe he should take a little time to realize who he is talking about before he just blurts things out that will cause discontent. Troll, Saleenexp, X-box, Pur Pony, Lowdpypes, and me (and a few others i forgot) are VERY SERIOUS about our speed mods for our vehicles so when someone says that, we tend to get a little defensive. But anyways i made my point and i will leave the fella alone as long as he does not say anything else that would label him as ignorant of what we are doing here. Cool? Ok i have said my part. But seriously. I do want to know what made you say that X-Factor. I am not asking to be a ***** i just want to know what made you say that. Then maybe we all can understand why you said what you said.

aaaaah ok i got it. that is what i thought you meant. but i posted a few times between then so i didnt know for sure. ya mustve just put the quote in there cause all i saw was the yeah it is part. lol.

My responce was to all! More so with X-factor.

But I understand you guys wanting to defend your self, that's human nature. But it turned into a childish behaiver. :D

HEHEHE

HEHEHE he said childish. lol. :D Oh by the way. thoug it has nothing to do with my HORSEPOWER updates. But is does have to do with modding my truck. Ya all know the grey trim plastic (i.e. bumper front and back, side skirt trim pieces and grill.) Well i took those all off the other day and painted them with this semi-gloss flexible bumper paint. Man it is strong and looks sooooo much better than the old way it looked. i think it makes the front end look a little more aggressive too. Once it decides to clear up for long enough to wash it without fear that it will just rain right after, i will clean it up real good and take a few pics of it. All in all i would say it was worth it (about 5 1/2 -6 hours time) Taking all the pieces off and then masking the grill off so as not to paint the chrome part of it. And then painting and reinstalling. I dont think i would do it again but man it was worth it if that makes any sense. Some of those tabs and screws are a major PAIN to get to!!!

hey rob.. can you pm or email me some details on how you went about painting everything? i got a quote from a shop for $400 to paint what you did, the front and back bumper covers, running boards and rear splashguard moldings. how much did you spend? where did you buy the paint? etc?

$400!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my god!!!! Well my total cost for 3 cans of paint and masking tape comes out to be about $20-$25. You got to get the right type of paint though. If you are planning on going with a semi-gloss black, that for instance matches your mirrors (if they are black). The type of paint i used is Plasti-kote Flexible Bumper & Trim Paint #1895 Semi-Gloss Black. Matches perfectly. I got it from Advanced Auto Parts. About $5 or so a can. I ended up needing 3 cans, though i only used about 5 squirts from the last one. I would say to do running boards and all would be about 4 cans should be enough. It makes such a world of difference. Because now when i look at it, especially at night it looks completely different than the boring old grey color. Alot sharper. Tomorrow i will post a few pics as long as it isnt raining outside. That way you can see how it turned out. I also (just to be safe) let it dry for 3 days before even thinking of washing it. Though i bet i could have washed it the very next day and not had any problems. but at least this way i know nothing would happen. It bonds really well with the plastic trim and looks as if it had always been black. Well if you or anyone else has any further questions just ask. C ya round. Rob

Oh also to clean and prep the surface i used mineral spirits too. About another few bucks. Cleans good and dries quick.
