hey guys,

i have a 91 ford explorer xlt 4dr 4x4, i had the suv for 1 year now and did some mods, i got a 2" spacer and shackle lift and 2" body lift, under that i have 32 m/t bfg and black steelies, but i need 30 more wheel horsepower,
these are the parts i found so far tell me if the horsepower seems right to you

performance chip 15hp
bbk throttle body 8hp

does anyone know any more performance parts i can get to get my 30rwhp gain!?!?

without some major mods 30 hp at the rear wheels is a lot... even with bolt on performance adders, and im talking all of them costing tons of $ you still might not make that goal.....

why do you NEED 30 more rwhp? if its because of the larger tires, i say regear, and this will make the truck perform better

MAF, BBK TB, Apten chip, Headers, Exhaust, Open element intake, and I doubt that would get you 30rwhp. Those #'s the manufacturers give you are BS and not measured in rear-wheel anyways.

ok i looked around on this site and these are the parts i came up with
kkm intake 5-7hp
75mm mass air flow sensor 6-8hp
bbk thorrtle body 7-9hp
thorrtle body spacer 4-6hp
performance chip 15-17hp

that is anywhere from 37-47hp but i also saw that explorers have anywhere from 15-25% drivetrain loss

so we will go with 20% that give me 30-35hp gain ...right? or will these mods be even less

do you already have exhaust because my exhaust added 8hp

manufacturer claims are flywheel power and are most often times exaggerated...... and drivetrain loss is probably closer to reallistically 20%

have you had that dyno tested? i highly doubt that an exhuast gave you 8hp, rear wheel or crank --maybe crank, but still seems unlikely

i had it dyno tested at a local shop that does tranimission work... stock power was 122.4rwhp and with exhaust it was 130.6rwhp

the only reason i can afford to do these dyno test are because i am friends with the guys son that owns the transmisson stop.. so after i get my kkm intake this week im going to have it dynoed again to see if that gives me anything

Did you do the dyno same day? So a base run then add the exhaust and do another run?

when i first got my explorer it was all stock and had 85,000 miles on it and i dyno'd it and did 122.4rwhp and then i got my exhaust installed and pulled 130.6rwhp first dyno was on 8/11/04 and the second pull was 9/19/04 and i plan on having it dyno'd again this saturday if i get my kkm intake..

does anyone have a kkm intake and when they installed it did you feel a differnece and did it hurt or help you mpg

I've got a custom intake, same thing as KKM for the most part. You notice a nice throttle response improvement, didn't notice mileage change, and I wouldn't dyno just after getting the KKM, might add 1 or 2 hp max.

does it sound any better?

do you think the i-fab one would give some more power?

and huskyfan23 is see your one thread about your hypertech chip ..do you like it ? what diffence did you notice with that? i was thinking about getting a hypertech chip in the near future

It does sound better, real loud when barely pressing the gas (can't hear it over my exhaust most of the time). Hypertech sucked, got rid of it a year ago and bought an Apten, haven't looked back.

Why the magic number of "30rwhp?"

I wouldn't believe any of those hp numbers given by manufactures, and I doubt that you would see or feel any real performance difference with any of them. But with a combination of them, you should expect a decent amount of get-up-and-go. That increase may be 20hp or 40hp, but those are just numbers.

did you get it dyno tested? and what exhaust do you have

That was sarcasm. :p

Dyno'ing a vehicle in reference to such small numbers, on different days, different temperatures, different relative humidities, etc etc etc is just about worthless. The only way you can effectively determine a gain from a particular mod would be to dyno the vehicle, install the mod, then dyno it again with no change in any other parameter.

the reason i picked 30hp is because that would be the right amount to gain i will take more if it is there

since i already have exhaust i had a dyno test done where i got my exhaust installed and i got 17.5hp grain it went from 130.2hp to 147.7 hp and this was on all on the same day

Like Jim asked in post #2, WHAT GEAR RATIO do you have with those 32" tires? If you go from 3.27s to 4.10s you will feel like you gained alot more than 30 hp.
