2007 Explorer v8 4x4
Whats up guys. My name is Viet and I am new to this fourm. Came across the fourm while checking out pros and cons with my new purchase... a 2007 Explorer limited V8 4x4!!! A few things since I am very new to the car and fourm. I got the car in San Jose from a dealership for 19998. It has 63,x.. miles on it with one owner and perfect (as in no accidents) on carfax report. It's the biggest purchase I've ever made, but i think its ballpark price being that it was a dealer purchase. I was able to add 3 yrs or 36k bumper to bumper warranty = $3,000 extra but i felt it was a good choice. I love the car... it has everything but the dvd player in it... I cannot wait to add some headrest monitors and a DVD or blu ray player into it... havent researched it yet. I hope you guys can give me feed back and when I have more time ill look thru the site more to learn more about the car. Any suggestions or maintaining the car or in general will be much appricated as I am a novice lucky enough to get such a nice car. Also I read a bit of a post about "flashing" something to get the stopping or excelling to be smoother?!?! would that be something covered under warranty. Thanks :exp:

Welcome to the forum!

As for general advice, simply to do regular maintenance on it, and use good quality parts and fluids. For example, avoid Fram oil filters, use something good like Motorcraft or Mobil 1.

The "flashing" you heard about may refer to the PCM (computer) being reflashed. It consists of buying a handheld tuner preloaded with a custom tune for your vehicle's computer. You can upload the custom tune to your vehicle through the OBD-II service port, which is easy to do, and gain a bit of power and acceleration. Often these tuners will improve throttle response, and you can adjust settings like shift points and the top speed limiter. I would not expect it to be able to affect braking at all. Typical costs for a tuner plus a tune are around $250-400.

It would not be a warranty item though, in fact, a custom tune could actually void your warranty. If the Ford dealer finds out you put a custom tune on when you bring the car in for service, they may void your warranty, no questions asked. It is possible to use the handheld tuner to reload the factory tune at any time, but in some cases the dealer can actually see that the tune has been changed!

Basically, if you plan to ever service your vehicle at the dealer, even if it is for a recall or warranty item, it is a big risk using a custom tune. For the amount spent on the tune you're not guaranteed a large performance boost anyways. Up to you!

I can tell you from having owned two 4th gen explorers that you will LOVE yours as well. I had both a 2006 V6 and now own a 2006 V8. There without a doubt is a difference in fuel economy but other than that they are fantastic! Glad to have you aboard.
