Can anyone provide a description of the repair or a pdf? I am also getting the 404 Not Found message when trying the link. I have a 2006 4.0 L v6 Eddie Bauer with console shift. Indicator is one off... transmission in reverse gear shows at neutral indicator. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am also experiencing this problem on an 08 I bought last week. Did anyone end up taking it to the shop? I’m planning to, and hoping it won’t cost much to fix.

Fixed it

Thanks Town, that did the trick.

This is the fix for the floor mounted shift indicator of a 2006+ Explorer.

On the driver's side of the transmission under the vehicle is a lever attached to the shift cable. It has a soft aluminum cover on a stainless steel cover. If you pull back the soft aluminum cover and pry the stainless part off from the front end, you can see the nylon toothed connection pieces. Adjust those and reassemble. Thanks to Town, I have a more detailed PDF file if someone needs it.
Would you be kind enough to provide a copy of the PDF

my 2006 ford explorer was stuck in park. after I finally got it out my gearshift lever is off...reverse and neutral are reverse, drive is neutral and drive 3 is drive...How can I fix that. car works fine except for that..I know there was a recall on the stuck lever but too late for that now...any help would be great..Thanks
I have the exact problem right now. If is a recall can I get it fixed in the dealership? if not how can I fix it?

Still need help!!!!

:mad:OK I took the center console apart and could not find anything that would adjust the indicator. Actually quite the opposite. The gear indicator and the shift lever appear to be attached and don't look like they can be separated. The shift lever and the indicator are both one off N=R; D=N;
3=D; etc. I noticed a yellow plate with notches in it to help lock in the gear. That is still set to the original locations, it still locks the shifter at D which is now Neutral.

All the directions on this site with the thumb screw under the dash are not relavent to this setup (shifter and indicator on floor).
You are right about the location. And now how did you fix the shift lever?
