So it snowed here in Cheyenne... and the highs the last few days have been in the 20's. Today my friend and I decided to go hang out since he's leaving for Seattle on Thursday and we probably won't see each other before then. So I go to his house, and my heater blower isn't working again. I say again, because once in October and once in November it didn't work. The first time, I sat in the mall parking lot fiddling with the switch for about 20 minutes and it finally came on, nice and warm. The second time I was going to be late for work, so I drove and played with it at the same time, gave up after 5 minutes of hardly paying attention to the road; I decided getting to work cold was probably better than getting to the hospital in a body bag. The blower kicked in as I was pulling into the parking lot of work.

After I picked up my friend, I told him not to talk much so the windows wouldn't fog up and instructed him to play with the switch as much as possible. After about an hour, the blower came on and worked for the rest of our hanging out. We went to a video store and rented Need For Speed Underground, the game we've been trying to rent since it came out. Came to my house and played it for about 5 hours and then I decided to take him home because I have to get up early tomorrow for work. We went outside, and the heater isn't blowing again. He only lives about 4 blocks away so I said screw it, let's just go. I dropped him off and came home, playing with the switch the whole way.

This wouldn't be so bad if the blower stopped working in the summer when I could open the windows to keep cool (I usually do this ANYWAY), but it's winter and I can't warm up by opening the windows. And it's very frustrating when I have to drive down the highway and scrape the inside of my windshield at the same time, after of course scraping the outside with no assistance from a nice warm defroster.

I went to Auto Zone and priced a new blower and switch, $84.99 for the blower, $54.99 for the switch. I may be able to get a blower cheap if the Explorer I saw at the local you-pull-it junk yard has the blower, and hopefully it works. But what would any of you suggest trying first, the blower or the switch? I'm kinda lost since sometimes when I play with the switch it kicks in, but other times it just does it on its own.

Well, I consider my X my GF :p I love it, I spend a hell of a lot of money on it, I go everywhere with it, we have the same tastes in music and camping spots, and it loves me so much it's still going - even after 210,000 miles:cool:

yah but sometimes mods just arent enough and a real person is...dare i say neccisary =) lol

my gfs gunna kick ass if she reads this =) lol

check the switch with a multimeter to see if its still good. that will tell you what part to buy. typically if the blower works at all its the electrical part the switch which has resistors on it, they have to be crimped on and not soldered. its easier to get a new switch if thats your problem

I had a similiar prob in that the blower would activate (or stop) after hitting a bump

Go under the hood and gently wiggle the wires going into the blower motor . ( if yours has just wires going into). mine were broken and shorting there

I replaced the broken blower motor for ~ $40.00
the new blower motor has a moulded connector and no props since
Best of luck

Start with the motor. Connect power to it directly and see if it works. You can get a cheap center off toggle switch and have high and low speed. Hey, its a 91! Don't want to spend too much.

I am having a similar issue with my x. My heat blows just fine until i hop onto the freeway on ramp and accelerate, with acceleration it sounds like the blower is still blowing but nothing is coming from the vents. over the summer I lost my A/C, due to the blend door so I didn't have A/C this last summer. But when it is 12 degree's outside I like my heat to work.. I have no idea what it is..

well my rear blower for the Heat is working fine under acceleration. Must be something wrong with the front blower. :(
