1999 ford explorer.
1999 SOHC Explorer. Put up 12 months was running good
Now? New battery and oil, turns over good but won't start

Doesn't sound like it even wants to.

Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

.....Perplexed and flummoxed

fuel stabilizer?

Did you add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank and run the engine on it before letting the vehicle sit for a year? If not, your fuel may have turned to noncombustible lacquer. Collect a sample from the Schrader valve under the hood. If it smells like gas and has a red tint it's probably combustible. If its yellow and smells like lacquer its probably not.

Also consider a fuel filter. When sitting that long, a lot of poo can settle out of the gasoline, and there can be a lot of condensation that collects in the tank.

Is there plastic cover over the engine? Dont remmber what its called. Take it off. Locate the idle air control valve and knock it with something see if it starts. Idk my mechanic did that and thats how we figured out what it was. Or just take it off and see how dirty it is (mine didnt even have a gasket!!) I am in no way well experienced but this would be a good try.
