Hey guys, i havent really done anything to the explorer now for like 10 months, it kinda got pushed to the side since i got my 03 ranger and that needed some mods soo it wasnt soo stock. But right after i graduated i started my new job in commerical construction. I started making good money and started saving up to COMPLETELY redo my explorer. Back in the jan. 07 i repainted my truck, but after a encounter of several trees and bushes it needs to be repainted(something thats easier to touch up with spray paint). But i bought these off ebay friday night and got them today!

Yeah, 37x13.0r15 boggers!! Well you can see that they wont fit to good but they are getting mounted to my wheels this week sometime. The truck doesnt get driven right now so im gonna put them on to see how much more lift i will need. But the idea right now is wagony d44 leaf sprung, 4.56 gears, aussie front locker, hy steer, soa. Since i dont think the d35 would hold up very long.

WAY BETTER PICS in post #19 LOOK!

Oh hell yeah!!! gotta get those on the truck dying to see what they look like ON the truck. can't wait to see the pics!

...you are going to want at least 4.88-5.13's gears for them huge tires and be prepared to start cutting those front fenders...:D

ditto on the gears

the 4.56 are staying, consider the 8.8 already has the 4.56's in it. Im also considering fiberglass fenders and a xj tube bumper..

those are the least of my worries, i gotta put a d44 under here.

thatll be sweet.. how much did those set you back shipped?

bought them on ebay $500, he delieved them to for $50! total cost $550!!!

yeah guys i cant wait to till i go on vacation just to get back to get started, going to the yard when i get back to get the d44.

you cant beat that...cant wait to see the process pics

Ditch the 8.8, sell it to some jeeper. If you want you could take this to upgrade to an 8.8 with disk brakes or go with a 9" (makes matching bolt patterns VERY easy down the road.)

Spas put 4.56's in hers with 37's and withing 5 min of driving she decided she MUST go 5.13's. And her's is an manual, so its deals with higher gears a little better.

You will never regret 5.13's and the little bit of extra money spent on them. I have 5.13 as well and kinda would like 5.38's

im not going to agrue with you there, even with the 33's and 4.56's i wish i would of went 5.13's! So yeah down the road i would like to go 5.13's. But im also going with a leaf spring, dual shocks setup and down the road i plan to go with a coil over 4 link front and rear. But thats a whole different story. As of right now i think the 4.56 will alright.

Ive been searching around the web looking at sas build ups mostly the leaf spring setups. Ive found a lot of good info on the toyota forums, they even make some sas swap parts that might work for my sas swap like the all pro offroad front spring mount, toyota front leaf springs and all pro shackles.

why even bother with premade stuff, me and rookie made everything for my swap and installed it in 2 days.

the hangers and shackles are simple, and the front crossmember is just a piece of 2x3 or 2x4 welded between the framerails.

add leaf springs and your done.

toy leafs will probably be way to light for your truck, I use waggy springs and people seem to think they are a little to light. And they came with v8's, not little 4cyls like yotas.

I think you should forget about toy leaf springs and start looking here and RRORC, toy's are completly different.

do you got any pics of you shackle hangers? or anyone else, kinda suck on that idea. I just got my welder setup and working soo im excited to try it out. I should even be able to get the stuff to fab it up out of the dumpsters at work haha.
With the leaf springs, its always been between wagony and yota springs, i can always add a nother leaf or so if its to soft. But whatever i can find a better deal on when i get back from vacation.

Im looking for 8" of lift, im looking for a 2.5-3" lift leaf, since a soa addes 5-5.5, know of any leaves that will work?

I was just gonna put my 8" skyjacker coils on there and just buy as many d35's i can..But i not really up for the wheel bearing problems like i had before

yeah i was gonna say with 37s u would be eating up wheel bearings left and right..id also go with the leaf spring setup..shouldnt be hard at all to do-just time consumin

I know that a leaf spring setup isn't difficult and perform VERY well. But why not a coil setup? Seems like most around here are going this route on 1st gens when a coil swap is also not too complex. I'm in the middle of mine right now and all I had to fabricate is a new crossmember/ra mount, trac bar mount, and coil spacers (could be skipped if not using a full width axle). Just asking, not criticizing :)

I can deffinitly see a leaf setup being easier on a 2nd gen though...

look in my sas thread round page 9-10 theres pics of everything in there. The spring hangers are just a piece of 3x3 box tube with one side cut out and welded to the back . The shackle hangers are old leaf spring eyes that we cut flush and welded to the crossmember.

Im changing the shackle hangers to the huge 3" ballastic fab cartridge joints.

so the spring can twist and flex without binding. I will just make new shackles that fit around those joints and neck down to my spring width.

Your thinking of leaf springs with the add a leaf being 2.5-3" lift and soa being 5.5 to make 8~ over all just isnt right. Think about what your going off of, those are measurements over stock on the stock location of the rear of an explorer.

Your measurments will be over a custom mount in the front of an explorer, totally different weight.

Just use a waggy spring, it will be very close to 8" (thats about what mine is). If its not what you want, change the shackle length or add/remove a leaf from the pack.

I didnt not know that stock waggy leafs will give me the lift im lookin for, ill check you pages thanks!

I got them balanced and mounted last night, as well as my truck inspected.

Put them on and WOW!

You can see that itll rub like a motherF***er. But probably with a body lift, and a lot of fender triming and removal of the front sway they would fit good.
But the fenders also dont cover the front tires(pa state law) so Ill need some fiberglass fenders, that way i dont think i will have to trim. Oh and my bumper(bottom) hieght now is 28" pa state law is 24" and im going to need more lift! Only gonna lift it 2" more though.

In case your wondering i have a 4" rc lift and f150 coil seats, as well as a soa in the rear total 5.5" of lift.

how do you expect to go to a waggy d44 and get it to match a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern?

BTW, you never responded to my last PM.

Also, if you want to wheel it come to RC at the end of the month. We already have about 5 trucks going
