My off roader is off the road

I had a problem with my one and only single button key fob not working but an friend of mine repaired it so its lighting up but nothing happens when I press the button .My Explorer has been sitting now for 3 months ,lovely motor going nowhere and am actually considering scrapping it but that would be such a waste .Any ideas on how to get it back on the road .When I connect the battery the alarm goes of but as I said pressing remote does nothing . Any help would be appreciated .

you're gonna have to take it to ford, but, before you do that, when you put the battery on, stand by the fuel filler and push the button on the remote, the control unit for the alarm/locks etc is just before the wheel arch on the passenger side.
