my parked X got hit

the air dam is from a 93-97 ranger 4x4. It damn near fits perfect..but i won't lie to get it to fit like it did i had to take the bumper off and line the air dam up and drill new holes in the air dam and bumper....took about 3 hours to get it the way i wanted....but i think it was worth it! not ever day you see an X with a ranger air dam

I should be able to find one of those pretty easy:D

yea! Just go to the Ford dealer, tell them you need a 93 ranger 4x4 air dam in medium opal. should be around $40. i preped it then with plastic prep cleaner. then i primered it really good. then i got some paint adhesion promotor from autozone and sprayed it on then followed with my color coating. then clear coat. you might even want to spray a coat paint adhesion before you primer....overall its held up good no major paint chipping

Thats all it cost?Thats cheap.:D

yep $40 plus the costs of your paint, which mine were about 20 total....so 60 for a cool ass air dam, and if you want lights, explorer pro comps fit right behind the holes.....they are pretty cheap too

Actually, I'm going to guess that the Limited bumper is going to be cheaper because its plastic as opposed to metal, the added expense is going to be that the Limited cover will need to be painted, something the insurance won't figure in.

well the limited bumper is a metal bumper with a plastic cover right?

i wouldnt feel very secure with a plastic bumper....i'd feel like a honda....hehehe

if i cant score the limited bumper

i'm probably need a new fender...so when they paint that i'll have them paint my air dam, and rear deflector....

For some reason when I clicked on the links I got " page Unavalible "
Straighten the bumper ? Not hardly. Believe me I have tried. Yeah , the body shop should be able to work with you if ya wanna sawp for another bumper.

copy and paste the address into a new broswer window....
swap for a new bumper?
cool...on mine the black strip is double side taped on, and i got some rust goin on......the sucky part is that it took me 3 hours to get that air dam to fit on the bumper....damn it!

Its a standard bumper bar with a plastic cover.

And if you'd been in a Honda you may not have had any damage lol ;) The Explorer doesn't have 5mph bumpers.

you may not have any damage but....youd still be driving a honda :p :p :p

you think the limited bumper would be cheaper or more than a regular bumper....being theres no chrome on the limited ones

First you have to find a limited bumper:D

yea that would be the only set back

oh well at least i'll get a new shinny bumper at the least eh

The bumper cover will be cheaper because its plastic as opposed to steel, it may cost more to install because the bumper bar is probably different, and it will have to be painted. Then you'd have match issues and all, I say go with the chrome one, I think it looks better on the first generation Explorers anyway.

Depending on what kind of girlfriend she is( you know a serious thing ) I'd tell the mom to forget about it. Big time browny points.:D

well i'd do that but being in college and trying to pay for everything is hard enough. and i don't think i'd like having the dinged up bumper and fender if i decide to sell it...which i will probably do in about a year or so....
but yea stephen i'm probably gonna do that.. Thanks for your input i appericate it ! i hate those indecisive moments i have..hehehehe...

yayyyy
the insurance man just left ....and i found out that they are going to replace my fender *with a ford fender* and bumper *with aftermarket* and the metal body peice below the headlights and above the bumper. paint and blend the fender. give me a rental car too. best of all i get to go to any body shop i want. i'm very pleased besides the fact that i will have to take my air dam off and remount it and the aftermarket bumper doesn't please me very much but oh well its all good

My experiance with aftermarket bumpers on Fords have not been too terrible.
( fenders ,hoods and headlight doors have been a nightmare )
Good luck man , hope it looks great !!!
