Ok, so this is my situation:

I've had my ten hooked up for less than a week, then all of a sudden it just stopped last night. The thing is, though, when I go back and put pressure on the cone it works again; but when I take me hand off: no noise. What's the deal? Is it cooked? Help is appreciated!

did you check to see if all the wires and harnesses are secure?

Every thing's gravy, that's why I'm perplexed. I don't understand why when I push down on the cone it works. I've pulled it out and checked every thing.

did you get it installed at a shop? i got my speakers installed at Best Buy and there was a wiring problem. they took a look at it and fixed it for free. maybe the shop you got it installed at has the same kind of service

No, I'm pretty tech savvy so I did it myself (not that it was a big deal to do), and I have a good idea of what's going on with car audio but don't understand why this is happening. I appreciate your suggestions, though!

Does a blown voice coil sound about right? Apparently it's quite common with Infinity's... :(

That's what it sounds like to me. At least a damaged coil.

Yeah, probably a damaged coil. When you push on it, it might move it just enough to make it touch and work, then you let off and it detaches. Kinda weird, but possible.

I had that happen with an Eclipse sub, too. Same symptoms.

not a blown coil...sounds like the tinsel joint broke. Usually this happens because of excessive abuse.

I never even thought of that one. Definitely another possibility.

Brentp:
If you just got them, they should have some sort of waranty. Email or call Infinity and explain the situation. They'll probably replace them. Or just return them to the store and say they came that way ;)

I can tell you that VERY few manufacturers will warranty a broken tinsel lead.

His problem is most likely the tinsel lead to coil joint...Its inside the sub where you can't see it...so it should be warrantied.

Yeah but if the actual tinsel lead broke than thats user abuse which is not covered

i had this ame problem with another brand, but i had mine installed at a shop. they told me i should've "worn it in", i guess letting it play but not to loud.

haha you got jood...break in has noting to do with tinsel lead to coil connection breaking.

Break-in itself is argued from person to person.

if a tinsel lead breaks before fully broken in from the sub moving within its safe limits than the sub should not be worth buying
