Hello. Well I just installed my Pioneer 3 way 6x8 speakers in my 95 xlt. I am sorry to say I am not as happy as I thought I would be. I mean I can hear good sounds but the bass is so ****ty. Its totaly distorted pretty much. Yet the highs sound good. It doesn't get as loud as I thought either. I am asking how to fix this. For now I am running it from my JVC head unit. The head unit pushes 45x4. While the speakers get a constant 50 and top out at 220. Is it because I am running it from the head. Will an amp really make that much of a difference. I mean for now the factory speakers I had in there before provided more bass than these and could handle a little bit higher volumes. They didnt have the clarity to hear things clear as well as the new ones though. Could I get a sub and amp for that and would that help. Or should I get the amp for the pioneers then a sub and amp for it. I just want a loud clear sound. I can't turn what I have right now loud because the speakers are pushing ****ty ass sounding bass. I thought these are suppose to be better than stock.

First off everyone that puts in door speakers running off hu always complains about how it doesnt sound better. It does but your not going to get EXTREME bass. I have my door speakers amped and components and there is bass but still not as much as i want. Go for a amp and a sub that will get you the bass you want. Im sorry to say but if your not ready to drop some $$$ your not going to get the sound you want. Also you should of went with 6.5s instead of 6x8s. But yes if you do amp the door speakers with a 200.4 amp it will sound a lot cleaner and distorted free at higher volumes.

I know what you mean about the pioneer's having crap bass. I have the 4-way 6x9's in the back of mine and the suck really bad except they are good on the highs. I think that these speakers just simply suck for bass and will never be good with or without an amp. My friend has some polk 6x8's in his tbird and they kick out massively more bass than my 6x9's do or ever will!

You want to know why you don't get "good" bass from your 6x8s...because they aren't made to put out mad amounts of bass. Thats what subs are for. Door speakers are made to put out midbass and highs. And yes...you will get much better sound when you get an amp for them. Now some people have mixed opinions about this...but your head unit puts out only between 10-20 watts per speaker, so you are severely underpowering them.

I understand this, but if I turn my subs off, it would be nice to know that I don't have to turn them right back on again to cover up the crap sound and the extremely evident lack of "mid-bass" or whatever its called. Compare the pioneer's to any other non-amplified or amplified speaker. The other one will have way more bass any sound a lot fuller and richer. At least they look nice...

First off...no speaker is going to have good bass/crisp highs/or good reprocussion with only 15 watts going to it. It doesn't matter whether it is pioneer or any other brand...it just won't do it. The reason is has crap sound is because it distorts due to the evident lack of power.

Pioneer makes fairly good speakers. I am not preaching their quality or anything...but its not the speaker itself that's the problem...it is the lack of power.

dude, I'm talkin like no bass at all. Check some out for yourself. I have them!!! They suck!!! Why would I insult my own speakers in my own car unless there was something really crappy about them? I don't even see why I'm getting worked up about something so dumb, but I fully intend to replace them in the future, and when I do, I will send them to you and you reap the benefits of such an awesome car audio enhancing device.

I don't mean to be so argumentative about this, but I think they suck and you think they need an amp and we're not changing our minds about it so I'm done arguing.

LOL all i can say is i agree with beast they sound like crap due to the fact they are underpower. Now if the case is the speaker doesnt sound good that is your fault for not researching it out/listening to product before hand. cooldude why didnt you ask before hand everyone here could of gave you pros and cons and what to look for and hell we are so close i could of let you heard all the brands alpine, rockford fosgate, sony, infinity, pioneer that my friends have in there cars and you could of made your descion than. Just try to return them from who you bought them from(Hope not circuit city) or sell them around here and than go from there. Make sure this time to check and research stuff out before you make a purchase. Chill out Josh S. we are only trying to help out.

I have been using the pioneer speakers running off my head unit for a year now without a subwoofer and they sound good, a friend of mine asked me when I got my sub after riding in my truck, he was shocked that there was no sub.

The speakers are good, are you sure they are hooked up right (did you bypass the original amp) because a lot of other people have them and you're the first to call them ****ty.

If you want bass get a subwoofer and listen to it with a couple of songs that you like before you buy, make sure it gives you what you want.

I don't want a lot of bass. I know they are door speakers and aren't for that. I just want clearity which they provide till I turn it up and the ****ty bass distorts and makes it to where the highs become distorted. I am just upset that my stock got louder than my new ones. I wired things by cutting the wires running tot he stock and tapping into them and hooking up the pioneers. Thanks for all the complaints and stuff and help also. It is appriciated

Also it sounds bad when hitting the loud button. It normally does. I was just wondering if it will ever sound good when I touch that button. Or is that 2000 dollars away....special button I would say.

Pioneer speakers

As mentioned above, you really need to run those speakers off an amp!! You are lucky if you get 15 clean watts from the Head Unit. Dynamat or some other type of sound damping material will really wake up your system...even if your running those Pioneer's off the HU!! Before I upgraded my system, I was running my Pioneer's off the Head Unit.....did not sound good at all, but after installing the Dynamat on all the doors....WOW!! This stuff really makes a difference! Try the sound deadening/damping material first before you get rid of those speakers...really! I think you will notice a dramatic improvement. Good luck.

I am in the same boat. I have 4 new pioneer speakers and am not really happy with the sound. I am trying to figure out if it makes sense to get a new HU or just get an amp to run off of the original...

Ahh...well what is your headunit chances are it is just to weak so you should go with a good 4 channel amp but you will also need power wire, ground wire, 2 sets of rca cables, turn on wire, and possible a new positive battery terminal. So except to pay at least 250-300 for everything.

i have 4 infinity 5x7s and i think these guys may be right...when i turn up the volume even if i turn the bass and treble down my door speakers distort...and i have a 300+$ brand new pioneer deh-7400mp HU!!! i just purchased an amplifier from someone on the board and once i get it and install it i will let you guys know if it really improves the sound...i will tell you that i don't know how well dynamat will help me at least before i hook up the amp because i can't even turn it up loud enough to make much rattle at this point! I'm wondering where i can find out how to hook up the amp correctly and so on, i can't find anything in the Pioneer manual and i don't think the amp i'm buying is going to come with a manual at all lol

Underpowered is ALWAYS worse than overpowered. The distortion is the sorry little amp in the head unit clipping. When you hear that, you are getting your 45 watts per channel. What they don't tell you is that the 45 watt output is achieved w/ 10% distortion or better.

I say, always buy an amp BEFORE you buy speakers. (Unless your speakers have actually shorted out, fallen apart, or the foam surrounds have disintegrated.)

I know amps are expensive, but a $100 25x2 watt amp hooked to the two front, factory, speakers, with the head unit running the back, will be the best, basic upgrade on a limited budget.

Just my opinion, but I have spent alot of $$$ on this stuff over the last several years. (My wife can attest to this.)
