3 days ago i was driving down the road and i didnt notice a redlight and I t-boned a TJ completely my fault i wasnt paying enough attention. The irony is i was heading to a scrap yard to pick up some parts. The whole front end of my truck is done, Even the windshield is cracked. The frame up to the front cross member is bent. If i had collision on the truck im sure it would be totalled. On the positive side I think i can fix it. The fan didnt punch through the radiator, I dont think the suspension is messed up, I think the frame is only bent back to the front cross member. I was thinking of going to a scrap yard and getting another explorer front end but now im considering putting a ranger front clip on. I guess my question is would the front end from a 93-97 ranger work with my truck? Im thinking it would, Im pretty sure the doors on the explorer and ranger are the same for those years. I know of one guy who put an explorer front clip on a ranger I wonder if any one has done the reverse.

the front body pieces wont line up without a new clip.... and getting someone to put on a new clip for your conversion will probably prove to be very difficult. most places wont agree to handle something like that..... get the frame straightened and an alignment soon... or you will notice that things arent proper

You hit TJ Hooker?:p I mean, I know he has put on some weight over the years, but enough to ruin your whole front clip?:D

Oh, and I don't think Ranger front clips will work, I'm sure others know more.

Im gonna do it all myself I cant afford to have a body shop do it. I should say its the front clip its everything. I would be replacing both fenders, the hood, the lights and grill and front bumper. my truck is in real sad shape right now. The bumper looks like a taco. My KC Daylighthers are pointing at each other but some how theyre not broken! I was really suprised. I was going any where between 30 and 40 when I hit them. My airbags went off. :(

man....airbags..that sucks.... i wrecked my truck way back in the day... had to replace 1 fender, hood, front clip and radiator.... total out of pocket with frame straightening and a new clip welded on was under $2k
try to find out if any friends have friends that own a body shop....

What is a "tj"?

I am not sure what the T stands for (J is for Jeep)-- but it is the newer Jeep Wrangler... with the coil suspension and the round headlights

How bad was the TJ?

Ya gotta take a couple of pix before you dig in for posterity. Besides, we'd like to see what the front of a TJ killer looks like:D

Yeah i definantly gotta get some pics of my truck. I got the offer from the insurance quote from them and theyre offering me 8k which i think is a really good deal. They say my truck is actually worth 9k which is pretty suprising. I only paid ~9k for it. Im wondering how much it would cost me to buy it back from the insurance company. Im not sure what they go by when they come up for an amount to buy the truck back. They say the deduction for salvage is 1100 im wondering if this is what im gonna have to pay. Im also wondering If this is the amount im not gonna want to buy it back. Im also wondering if the insurance company would care if i pulled off all the parts I could. Sheesh Im doing alot of wondering :)

If you're going to rebuilt, Why don't you get fiberglass fenders and get rid of the IFS and throw some bronco axle down there... ??

$1100 would be what you would have to pay the insurance company to get it back. Actually they would deduct the $1100 from the $8000 and you keep the truck. You cannot remove anything without their approval if they keep it. When Allstate totalled my Toyota many years ago, I made arrangements to swap the tires and wheels with my newly purchased Ranger. Allstate deducted $100 from my settlement. I also took the stereo, amplifier, CD player and speakers since they never factored them in to the settlement. I had over $1000 in the equipment so I told them to either add $1000 to my settlement or I'm keeping the electronics. They told me that as long as I put a radio back in, I could keep my stuff. They figured the value based on a factory AM/FM radio. I just stuck the original radio back in the hole when I got mine out. The wrecking yard was pretty ticked off though since they were keeping the Toyota and like the new tires and wheels I had on it. I told them to take it up with the insurance company since I already had my check with the tires and wheels deducted from it.

According to your signature, "Dents and scratches build character".

Think of all that character you just built up, all at once, why would you want to "decharacterize" it? J/K:D

Just thought it was kinda funny.

Was everybody ok?
What does the "T" stand for?

What does the "T" stand for?

In this case I think it stands for "Totaled"

LOL

Yeah i definantly dont wanna pay 1100 bucks to keep it. Im gonna give the insurance company a call tomorrow and see what they say if i put some stock aluminum rims from a ranger on the truck and take the other ones off. Im gonna go pull the speakers out now i forgot to get those.

What does the "T" stand for?

-don`t tell anyone I know this, but when Jeeps first became available for the public, they made "CJ"`s for several years (they added a number to it for the subsequent production runs, i.e, CJ-5.
"CJ" stood for "Civillian Jeep"
<I`VE BEEN TOLD> the "TJ" stands for "Trail Jeep" and is a little more off-road worthy than the CJ`s but I don`t know if that is true or not.

So a TJ owner could say "I got a Jeep Trail Jeep, man"
Or how bout; "I got a Jeep Civilian Jeep-Five, man"
lol

I was never interested enough to research further, but I like to think that "YJ" stands for "Yuppie Jeep" :D

anyone know more?

Yeah YJ Definantly stands for yuppie jeep. :) A "friend" (i use that term loosely) has a 94 YJ lifted 4" and has 33s. He never takes it wheeling. He's always asking my friends and i to go wheeling with him down at the jersey shore. We're go run around and do stuff in the pits etc but he'll just watch. He claims he's gotten his jeep stuck in the mud and how he's broken this or that. All ive got to say is Id love to know how he keeps it so clean i spend sometimes 2 hours washing off the mud and there is still plenty there.
