My Upgrades, couple issues..

I would upgrade the alternator wiring: a a “Big 3” ( alternator B + terminal to positive battery terminal, negative battery terminal to frame, frame to motor ) wiring upgrade. Take a look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152430&highlight=alternator+wiring.

This will make sure that the truck is well grounded and bonded together.

After this you should be able to ground where you have it. Or, if it were mine, I would ground directly to the frame.

Good luck ....

Found new grounds in the fender bolts.. and it barely reached those.. I noticed no flickering. I'll have to test more during the night.

Current status of everything:
Catback installed
Mac Intake installed
Hids installed, high/low corrected & new ground points

No noticeable problems atm..

Daniel, how come you didn't ground it like Aldive said? It's better to do it that way now than regret it later... Did you ground it with the type of wire he suggested?

i don't go all the way to frame and drill a hole... thats probaily the best ground, but you don't need that for alot of things. I'm pretty sure ford uses paint free grounds on the core support, fenders, and firewall considering ive seen plenty of them

Understood, but I'm asking because Aldive practically walked him through getting this right. It seems it would be best to follow this plan through and not get in trouble down the road - literally.

I don't have a drill, or buncha wires laying around.. the ground wires from each light are not very long at all.. and barely reached the fender bolts.. which are unpainted and work perfect for a ground.

Quick question though that'll figure this high/low problem out... when the bulb is pushed forward.. is that high beam?

It seems low beam would be with it backward, to get a more focused beam.. and pushed out to spread the beam out.. am I correct?

Understood, but you should mention that right away, otherwise it looks like you're ignoring the advice given. You don't want to short out at -50, just wanna make sure you're doing it correctly.

It's nice n warm at 45 above right now.. snow is melting.. roads are clear... time for summer.. hopefully it stays this way..
I did mention it.

"The wires aren't too long, I grounded to a screw that's on each side.. which goes into the front metal part of the body."

I didn't notice a tilt? Just that the bulb moved outward and in?

If it tilts to the side, then shouldn't I have the bulb in the lens a certain way?

It may appear that way, have you taken the bulb out and looked at it switch?

This is what I did, I plugged in a normal halogen 9007 bulb and looked at how it changed between the beams, high beam it was outward [the filiment thing towards the tip of the bulb] [making the beam higher] and low is with it in towards the base of the bulb, the same way the HID kit was originally wired.. So I guess I found my answer... I think I just may need to get used to this new HID beam pattern.

But something else I noticed.. right when I'm turning off the beam.. it switches positions.. making me think they Are switched, but then that wouldn't make any sense of how the halogen bulb was setup..

So you like that catback pretty well? Not overly loud is it? I'm thinking about getting one...

I love it, the hardest part about installing it was getting the stock exhaust system out completely.. we tried and tried... couldn't get the sway bar off, didn't wanna take the shock off... tried and tried some more... said f*** it, n went for a drive to get a saw... once it was cut.. easy as cake..

I think you'd like it, I can't wait to see what it sounds like once it's broken in.

yeah you allmost always gotta cut the tail pipe was that your first exhaust job?

Yes sir it was.

Did you fix the problem with the flickering?

Yep, I did.. and it solved my oil gauge problem.. I found better grounds and everything was perfect. [Except the CB Reception...]

As I was warned before, the two bolts holding the two main parts of the catback have disapeared, what size bolts do I need to replace them with?

On a side note, the only reason I found out was because my exhaust sounded so much meaner... lol...

(Would it be safe to not even run a tail pipe?)
