Got a mystery squeak under the hood of my 97 5.0 Sploder. It's not always there, though. Thought it was the belt, but that wasn't it. I think I've determined it to be the idler pulley, any possible way to fix that other than replace it? Any way to repack the bearing myself?
Also, my front brakes squeak quite a bit. I've checked the pads, and they are damn near new. Most likely just dirt/dust/etc between the pad and rotor makin it squeak?
I've got the 5.0, so it's got thte 5-spd auto O/D, AWD. When goin between 40 and 50 in O/D, sometimes the truck will start to shudder a bit. If I give it a little gas, let off the gas, or turn off O/D, the shuddering goes away. Is that normal (I wouldn't think?), or is it the tranny wanting to shift, but not quite ready to shift?
Also got noisy lifters. I'm almost positive it's the lifters anyway. When I first bought the truck (with ~97k miles, now at ~101k), the tappings getting worse. First couple weeks I had it, the tapping was only there for maybe a minute after start up, then it went away. Then it started staying until after driving 5 min or so before it went away. Now it's almost always there (worse than the lifter tap on my 2.9 B2!). The tapping is only there when under load... at idle, it's NEVER there, only at load. And the tone also depends on how far down the pedal is. I can push the pedal down a hair, not enough to move the RPMs, and it starts making a different (louder) tone. Would that be the lifters, or possibly just a REALLY noisy injector?
Luckily, the truck is still under warranty (complete drivetrain warranty too!), and I have an apptmnt to take it in, in January, so if it is the lifters I'll just tell 'em to fix it, hehe.
Any info would be great!
Thanks!
