I'm afraid it's not that easy.

For the most part it is expensive cause it is new and popular. A few years, as with any thing they will become more and more affordable.

I want a nav. unit too but I am gonna give it a year or two.

nav units are costly because when you buy them, your buying the computer that processes the info and then a lcd screen to print it. gps units for the laptop are just like $100, cause it uses your laptops processor for all the info.

Try www.travroute.com
I personally have the Pocket CoPilot for my iPAQ and it works GREAT. Has a moving map and even gives turn by turn voice directions (sounds like electronic chic).

I also like the "time to destination" readout, lets you know when you will make it to your destination, so you know when to speed or not.

I use the suction cup window mount in the lower left corner and it is not distracting but highly visable.

would it be possible to get a palm pilot or whatever with the navigation and hook up a mobile screen to it??
thanks
danny

It probably isn't possible. If you want a navigation you're better off getting the flip-out screen with all the options. Remember you have to buy those expensive CDs for your area also.

well i guess i will just wait until the prices go down... or just start saving. thank you all for the help!
