none. yet!
just had a couple of messages from boots and all is looking good. we just have to iron out the nitty gritty and we should have a deal. this means so much to me, i'm so excited about this :D :D

now for the help bit. boots has informed me that his car has a 1 point injector lpg system, and my lpg man says that the 6 point is much better because the 1 point can fire back through the engine. thats why they are called 'exploders'.causing hundreds of pounds of damage if not killing the car. he says he can change it to a 6 point for under £500. is this true and neccasery? and is the price ok?

giddy glynis :D

I'm not hot on LPG but you should have a multi point system and not the single point, which does indeed backfire and could break the plastic inlet manifold. As for cost I have no idea but considering the work involved does not sound over the top.

I don't know if the price quoted for conversion is good or not. The price of a new 6point system with installation is around £1300-£1600 depending upon where you go.
If you go for the conversion is he going to include the 1000mile recalibration in the costs or will you have to stump up for that separatly

morning, you cant sleep either? i have so much on my mind at the moment.

anyhow, he said that would be a new and fitted 'front end kit' tested after 1000 miles, and that the 1 point systems were really poo and dangerous. i dont know.
iam buying this car as a gift for someone, and really cannot get it wrong. it MUST be right and going properly with no troubles. god knows i have enough of those at the moment. i really cant say too much, but it is very, very, important.and i am on a very tight budget also.

Hi,

Here is my opinion for what it is worth!!

I would say go for the 6 point system. The price sounds reasonable to me. You may save a few pounds by shopping around but if it's someone you know then probably best to use him.

I am looking to convert my Ex as soon as I can. Even though I have a complete single point system here that I could fit and would cost me nothing I am saving for a multipoint.

only reason its 500 becouse he only has to replace the ecu and tune it, plus fitting and plumbing in 6 injecters, the rest you have allready installed. my single point does have odd little blow backs, only worst ones when pulling away and blowing off all the intake tube. i will soon be upgrading to the 6 point aswell.

hi there,
would you say that your 1 point lpg is acceptable, though not the best solution? i am worried about the car blowing up and catching fire. does yours run fine just a better option for the 6 point?

If this is a present/gift to someone then even the slightest possibility of something happeneing that could cause death wouldnt make me hesitate for a second about getting the multipoint done!!

with the 6 point theres no blowbacks as its all fed thru the same hole as the fuel injector, plus the milage on 6 point should be better as its all controlled on each cylinder, my singlepoint is a simple system that cant tell if im towing or going up a hill, fueling is always the same unlike our petrol ecu knowing it all, i find my single point is sluggish compared to my dads multipoint.

Well as someone said, it could break the plastic manifold, if your doing 70MPH and the manifold breaks then who knows what can happen, as you said above "i am worried about the car blowing up and catching fire"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lpg

Hi Glennys and all,

I have pm'd you Glennys A short time ago and then read the above.

I hope my pm answers all your questions.

To All,

We have debated and all put in much info in the past about LPG and single V multipoint systems. The fact is the later m/p system is better than the earlier s/p system as m/p meters gas as/when require as stated above.

When I first got the Ex it did backfire and damage the airfilter box. That was! . . . a bit of a suprise to me however after having the system serviced & set by an lpg specialist, all was well.

Having done searches on this and other foums one of the things that appeared to add to the backfire problem was the restriction of air going from the airfilter & box to the engine, which as others have said can be a problem with a petrol only ex, hence advice on drilling or otherwise modifing the airfilter box to get air into the engine easier.

I fitted a PiperX cone foam filter in place of the paper filter & box and this provides a better airflow to the engine and I think mixes the lpg & air better.

Since the lpg service I havent had any backfire problems and when I did the foam airfilter mod some time later I was satisfied that the system was working as well as it should for a single point system.

I'm of the opinion that a some lpg garages may not be quite up to the mark in the same way as some ordinary garages. People also forget that an lpg system is also serviced at regular intervals, like other car/engine parts are but if it appears to be working fine why bother?

If you check the adverts for lpg vehicles quite a lot say something like, 'wont tick over on lpg but runs well when moving' that can be the system needs a service & reset, or perhaps its just that the lpg filter is a bit gummed up and that needs cleaning or replacing, like an inline fuel filter.

I'm satisfied that my ex is safe and economical to use and that's why I use it all the time on the lpg system its fitted with.

Cheers All

Boots
