ok well i have purchased a 2001 ford explorer sport trac from my wifes mother for $500 dollars due to the timing chain failure .. I have recently removed the motor from the truck and followed a few steps from member 2000streetrod .
very detailed man .. but i have a few questions .. i tried to read as much as possible but starring at the screen for that long i will probably get a seizure .
I work for Autozone and with my discount i can get a timing set (part number 76137 ) for just around $275.00 .. but i was wondering if that is enough or would i need more parts. if so please inform me as what i may need .. yes i know streetrod has a parts list .
but i rather ask because i noticed most people just buy separate parts when they have this kit and i need a shopping list before going to work ordering stuff .
another thing is once the motor is out i decided to rebuild it since why not? its already out and i don't want to have to do this again for a very loooongg time ..
but my question is would i have to put the engine on TDC before removing the heads and chains to send the heads to the machine shop. or can i remove and then time it once i get everything back from the machine shop.
i will have more questions very soon since this the first time taking apart a motor ..
