Hey guys, I've got a bit of a problem. The other day my truck started surging while idling, so I checked things out and found that a vacuum line has come off the fitting- problem is, I can't find the vacuum line to reattach it! I've searched through the Haynes manual and can't find anything, and I've spent at least an hour looking all around my engine with no luck. Here's a picture of the part I'm talking about: Dead Link Removed (I think you'll have to copy and paste the address into a new window to view the picture, my hosting service sucks.) The circled area is the fitting where the vacuum line should be (it's covered in electrical tape for a ghetto fix right now).

Could one of you guys take a look and see where that vacuum line is attached? I'm wondering if the whole line got ripped off somehow and isn't there at all. Thanks for any help! :)

I don't have that.....must be pre-95 OHV only.

Do you have one of those inlets on the vacuum tree plugged? I know that one on mine is plugged and never had a hose, and I think that the one I have plugged is the same one that you think is missing a hose. Try getting a rubber cap to cover it.

I just went out to my car and checked... That is definitely the one that is plugged (at least on mine). It has a yellow cap on it.

That one is plugged on my 94 OHV.

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll just plug it :)

Every once in a while my cap blows off too.....A mechanic friend once replaced it with an earplug as a ghetto fix...

While we're talking about that vac port, I wonder back in Germany when they designed our 4.0, what extra item that port was for?

Some accessory our 4.0 OHV's don't have I guess...

I once had an issue of the trans modulator leaking, causing fluid up there, the fluid made those plugs swell, and come off.

I'm not sure that I understand how it could "blow off" when it is on a port where there is vacuum, not pressure, but if its falling off or blowing off is a recurring problem, maybe you could fix it with a small hose clamp or a tie wrap. A couple of times the overflow hose at the radiator filler neck fell off (draining the coolant recovery tank in the process) so I fixed it by putting a hose clamp on to hold it in place. .

My hoses are pretty swollen from some transmission fluid, and the cap used to blow off when the engine sort of "backfired" once or twice in the past.... I do have some Zipties on the hoses now..:D
