I got the add a leaf and the rancho RS5000's in the rear done last week. Now its time to put the skyjacker springs in the front. (Just in case anyone was gonna ask I know I need to get it aligned afterward). I also replaced my o2 sensor today, hopefully the milage will go up, im getting a average of 12mpg right now. When I took the old out, the top was black. The new one wasnt black, so I hope the old one was shot, because I spent $50 on a new one. Tell me what you think about that.

Now to the problems. I have 2 of them.

1 I have the front tires off, axle (TTB) hanging, took off old shock, putting new one on, the rs5000 doesnt have a bolt under the top bracket that i can hold to keep the rachet and bolt of the top from moving the shock piston. So what Im saying is when I try to tighten the top bolt, the piston thing moves. On the old shock there was a bolt down there so I could make it not move. Help please!

2 I don't understand how to dissconnect the spring. I see the big bolt on the bottom, is that all I need to take off? If so, what size bolt is that its huge, i dont have anything to fit it. Please help!

Thanks!

question #1 use a big pair of plyers that's what i did
question #2 take off the sway bar and the shock then push down on the I beam and kinda twist the coil out of the top seat then get a couple of extensions and the bolt is a 1 1/8 (i am almost positive on this) take that bolt off and pull the coil out

there is a couple of ways to do it but this is the best way i have found to do it

Thanks for the help I will try it tomorrow. can I put a pair of plyers on the top of the piston? Because there is no where else to put it.

yeah!

Well I got the drivers side spring on. It was kinda hard, but I did it. I will finish the rest after I go to the lake tomorrow. I still need to know if I can clamp the wrench on the top of the piston thing. I dont know how to tighten the top of the new rs 5000 shocks thanks.

springs and shocks

I don't know if you did your springs yet but here's some advise for safety . When taking your front springs out you should run a chain thru the top of the tower down thru the spring to make a loop . This is to hold the spring incase it decides to pop out . As far as the taking them out , you have to go thru the top of the tower with a 1-1/8" socket and preferably an air gun . when you put your new springs in , make sure they are seated right at the top . As far as your shocks go , I have the same ones . You can get the nut close to tight , then put a wrench at the top , where it's flat , to hold it and use a ratcheting wrench to tighten it the rest of the way . Good luck !

I did the same as Meatwagon, the top of the piston rod is square on 2 sides, 1/4 or 5/16....
