Wifes Explorer threw a code (don't know exactly what it was she took it and had it read) but was told oxygen sensor needed replaced. My question is how many is there (I thought there were two?) and exactly where are they? What brand to you recommend? 1998 Explorer V-6 SOHC Many thanks!

You could of done a search on this, but I believe on the '98s there are three. Two on the y-pipe and one after the converter. The HO2 (heated-oxygen sensors) are located on the exhaust pipe(s). They monitor the oxygen and other chemicals in the exhaust by voltage. You need to find out which one it is and then see if you need to replace that, the converter, or look for a vaccum problem.

It could be as simple as the wires are unplugged from one. Hopefully, anyway. That happened on my old ranger once.

Thanks for the reply guys. I actually did a search and read for a long time but still didn't come up with what I needed. Thanks again

FYI replacing the O2 sensor is a common misdiagnosis.

The O2 sensor is merly a messenger.

It could be a number of things not nessicarily just the 02 sensors.

from the code i got, 0141 it says bank 1 sensor 2 o2 sensor... looked underneath and the connector is attached, no wires appear to be frayed. the vehicle has 190k on it and they have never been replaced, and it does have a decent bit of rough idle.. so does it actually sound liek i have an fualty o2 sensor or something else?

probably i will run some seafoam through it as well
