so after 170k miles my ex is in need of a new exhaust so

firstly does anybody have a pair of Cats (second hand) they would like to sell,

or has anybody had any off ebay (what are they like, do they fit?)

my local kwik fit can't get them and neither can my local motor factors.

I'm going to build a custom back end once I have the cats and front pipes.

cheers

Jim

Try this site and see if they can ship to you...

www.performance-curve.com...

Price is right and the quality is great... I use their universal convertors as well...

Do you specifically want to keep the cats? As you have an LPG vehicle you shouldn't have much problem passing the MOT emmision check without them.
You could just fit a lambda sensor if needed.

Thanks Guy's

Ranger7Ltr, shipping exhausts from the US is very pricey but I have found a complete new system in the UK for £350. both cats and tail silencer

Hi Stevasev, you are right, I always MOT on Gas and the emmissions are always very low. I think that I'm correct in that in the UK pre 2001 cars don't need a CAT as long as you can hit the emmissions target?

I would like to have straight down pips without cats but my pipe fabricating skills are not up to it, maybe look at one of the custom exhaust makers to see how much it would be..

cheers

Jim

Thats a great price mate- had around that quoted for the pipes and boxes behond the cats by kwickfit once- go for it.

I've gone for a full Stainless Steel system from the Manifolds back, £370 inc VAT, removing the CATs

being fitted next wednesday, I'll report back

Ah stainless exhaust
car ****

Let us know how it goes and if it is good let us know where as i may need a good stainless welder to sort out my mr2 back box

will do Jan, do you need a repair or a replace?

The back box has an outlet on each side at the rear. The box runs transverse will L shaped outlets (3") and the PO somehow managed to bend one of them about 20 degrees more. Not sure if with oxy torch it could be bent back without leaving a crease so may need cutting off and replacing.

I may just try and bend it back and run it for a while as i have a feelin it may be a bit loud. There is a guy fairly local to me that can do a good price on a standard exhaust that'll be quieter.
But if you have a good purchase experience then it will be good to know somewhere that could cope with the job if i wanted it.

I'm seriously impressed ! (and that doesn't happen very often)

I have the old girl back from the exhaust builders, 5 hours work and it is amazing, the note is deep and rumbling without being too loud (I tow a lot!), the quality if the build is great and would recommend them to anyone.

The build started with a chat under the car about approach, routing, Silencer placing and desired sound etc, they pointed out to me that some time in the past my Cats had been removed and a pair of crappy silencers had been welded in (and here was me worried that I would not pass the MOT without them next time). These silencers were not even the same size as each other and at least I know why I could not get the transsmission sump off last time without removing the exhaust.

As for on the road, around town, lovely sound, deep and rich (maybe they also added another pair of cylinders to the engine :)), on the Motorway much quiter than before but all in all more power low down and mid speed.

And of course when idling I can no longer hear it leaking !

so for £350 inc VAT good value (and includes a life time warranty)

cheers

Jim

Sounds like a very good deal

:ttiwwp:

Did you get any with it up on the ramp from below??

:D:D:D

I would if I was an Elite still but I don't do paypal and the site doesn't take anything else:(

Where did you have this done Jim ?

what will you do for mot time?

With regards to what? Having no cats? Read up the thread a little:thumbsup:

yes sorry i mean having cats at mot time, mine couldnt pass it with my shoddy de cat setup so im back to stock cats now

I take it you don't run LPG? That is the key here. The limits are much higher and so easier to pass. A properly set up LPG vehicle should have no trouble passing an MOT without cats.

I can't comment on the deal for newer vehicle but for most Explorers it should be fine.

Last MOT time I got my friendly MOT tester to test it on both LPG and Petrol, Flew through on LPG, scrapped through on petrol (only just) - pre 2001 it's ok to not have CAT's as long as emissions are ok
