Hey I lowered my vehicle not too long ago but I was thinking about lifting it because I am always going out to the beach and taking my boat out and stuff like that... the thing is I don't have a clue about how much of a lift i should do for a 95 explorer sport that would make it look good. Also i am wondering what kind of rims/tires would look the best without be outrageously expensive.... I have about $800 bucks to work with right now til i get paid again in 2 weeks so any input will help me out! thanks .... by the way my explorer is a 2wd.~

ok, this is what i would do:

TT/AAL...gets you about 1-2", cost: about 50 for the AAL and you can probably do it yourself.

3" BL, cost about 90 bucks and you can do it yourself

new brackets for rear bumper (to accompany BL) $25 @ local fab shop

so far you're at about 175.

then, throw some 32s or 33s on those stock rims (BFG all terrain) about 600 bucks.

that gets you to 775...but you will want to get it aligned asap. it also gets you in the air with much bigger tires, and keeps the stock rims which usually look ok.

EDIT: dont know if you can tt a 2wd....i didnt realize you had 2wd.

here's the new plan:

if you can tt, do a tt/AAL to get you another inch or 2, otherwise do a 3" bl and some 31s or 32s on those stock rims, and get aligned.

sounds good but can i use shakles with my ride bein a sport and havein a single leaf and also those tires with the stock rims wont give me the wide tire look would they?

not all sports have mono leaf...you may have to get warrior shackels instead of AAL, about the same price or if you can, get a 4-dr leaf pack. that will bring you up some and allow for AAL later on.

keep in mind that you probably have something like 235/75s right now (29" by about 9") a 31 will probably be 10.5" wide, a 32 11.5" and a 33 12.5". so, yes they will look wider, even on the stock rims. they say you van put tires up to 4" wider than the rim on and your rims should be 15x7...thus 32x11.5" would work. some have done 33x12.5 but i would caution it.

this is what a 30x9.5 looks like on a stock 15x7 rim:

this is what a 32x11.5" tire looks like on a rim only 1" wider than stock:

alright now we are talking ........... but mine is a single leaf so i will have to get some other ones ..... how much power am i going to loose if i put 32"s on?? i mean cuz i have to pull my boat out and stuff and all my gears are stock?!, but mine is standard!

ummm...well, ok. you need to know what gears you have...it will likely be 3.27,3.55,3.73, or 4.10.

i have 3.27s which is the worst. ideally, the higher the number, the lower the gears and the more power.

i am a little sluggish with the 32s, but i also have the weight of the 4x4 against me and i too have a 5-speed. with a KKM intake and synthetic oil and new plugs/splitfire wires, i pretty much made up the difference...but it is a litttle tricky at the get off, expect your clutch to wear faster. also expect MPG to drop.

BUT, since you have a 2wd, i would consider regearing to 4.30 (only avail for 2wd) and get a posi while you are at it (expect to pay 150 for gears + 350 for posi + 300-350 for install on this) you will not regret it later.

also, if you do a BL, you will need a 35 dollar shifter extension.

mann this stuff is starting to add up on me ....... but i guess i gotta start somewhere

plus ... where could i find this stuff for cheap or at resonable price>?

re: robb

i was just waiting for someone to pipe in!

i dont think i would go that nuts with a 2wd but thats just me.

se hablo internet?

so what would you do with a 2wd then if you had one?

me, i'd lower it...assuming i still had a 4x4 to tow with. BUT since you already said you want to bring it up:

TT/Leaf pack
3" BL
33x12.5" BFG all terrains on 15x8" Eagle 117s
4.30 gears
detroit softlocker or eaton posi
KKM intake
flowmaster 50 w/ duals
apten chip
tint all around
clear corners/altezzas/white faced gauges
CRL tube bumper with full sized 33" spare

and when it comes time, centerfore DF 2 clutch.

I have a 91 Sport 5 speed

and i am running 33, 12.50's with just 3in body

i do rub alittle if i cut it all the way

cost me 89$ = tax at www.4wheelparts.com

and me and my buddy's put it on in about 3 hours

oh mine is 2wd too

mine is a 93 sport 5-speed. with the 32s, i rub on turns...i couldnt fit 33s right now if i wanted to....but 2nd gens are a little different. you will need the shifter ext though.....it is dricable w/o it, but i wouldnt recommend it.

the 3" BL is cheap, but not all of us are as lucky during installation...i had sever problems during mine but then again i was working with a 10 yo mich truck.

btw, welcome to the ste, pspicer!

i had about 5 of my buddy's who work in for 4wheelparts wholesalers help me

and btw what ste?

and btw what ste?

THIS site...duh.

you got lucky...i had to do my BL by myself and ran into a ton of problems....do a search for my user name and the words "gone sour" for my thread about it...my truck was down for a month between having to special order new buchings and borrow tools and such.
