Need confirmed spec for fuel pressure -SOLVED ! !! ! ! ('95 4.0 ohv)

just cut the hole! Once its there you can cover it up and forget about it until its needed.

For me it is all about how long are you going to keep it? If the answer is "forever" then cut the access. I mean what are you hurting? Resale value? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh man re sale value on a gen II sploder...thats a good laugh.

The access on the 2/4 door explorer is not pretty nor is it in an ideal spot, but it is still possible! With a Ranger we can just lift the bed, but many of my customers have camper setups, camper shells, that make lifting the bed more complex. So we still consider an access panel. With my BII the access panel it right in the cargo bay, nice flat spot. The explorer sucks because its right under the seat, etc but who cares? Cut the metal, make a cover piece, paint all exposed edges, glue it down with silicon. Forget a dual pump setup....just make access to the pump you have!

I'll do it on my old mail truck, for future needs. That 99 the tank is getting dropped anyway to clean the tank(undriven for years). The seats are out of that one already, so it would not be hard to do it at the same time. Thanks for the push.

Ditto, in the best conditions you can R&R a fuel pump in a couple of hours. But most times it's much longer because the fuel line fittings don't want to let go, or the mounting bolts(captured nuts) want to strip etc.

I'm on the fence about an access hole, because the pump shouldn't need work very often. Yet they do, so I'm also considering a pair of pumps for my blown project truck. With two identical pumps side by side if they will fit okay, one can run continuously, while the other is a WOT boosting pump. With relays they can be switched at any time, so a failure would not leave you stranded. But that is more complicated for sure, thus no OEM would ever do that.
Several Subaru’s run dual pumps, but it’s due to the shape of the tank. They will, however, run on a single pump. Of course, they were reasonable and have factory access panels. You access the rear brake lines under the rear seat as well. Solid engineering.

I think a lot of manufacturers "today" are putting in access panels ... (of course should have done it lonnnggg ago) I was talking to a guy who had like a 2015 Charger and Dodge had fuel pump access panel under seat on that..

UPDATE for anyone interested...
So received / installed DPFE module today- did NOT resolve surging/hesitating during mild acceleration issue but it cleared my Code 332 - "Insufficient EGR Flow" CIL and resolved my "pulsating idle" that would routinely kick in after about 1 minute warm-up point.... which I assumed/hoped it might -- $9 well spent.
Carter fuel pump ordered now- ground shipping though --- metal nibbler tool arrived today - will be cutting custom access panel within the new few days and will post pics.

Thanks for the update,
Let us know if the fuel pump helps.

HAHA im not the only one! i feel much better about cutting a hole in my floor! my thought was your not going to drop a tank on the trail!

EDIT / SOLVED! : >> So being the Explorer isn't my daily / on budget / and frustrated with time spent testing / ruling out this...that / parts thrown at it etc.. it was put on the back burner again.... UNTIL I found this site doing more research...and WELLA ! ...it WAS the cause of my last gremlin I couldn't figure out ( P.S. Wasn't getting any more CODES !) ...and that gremlin was hesitation and surging when accelerating in the 20 - 40 mph (2nd to 3rd gear) range --most noticeably and frequently....not happening cruising down the freeway at steady speed.
The problem: Bad or subpar o2 sensor (bank 2 upstream in this case) ...and THIS WAS NOT TRIGGERING A CODE / CIL NADA NOTHING ZILCH ON MY OBD1 !!!!
I have this site / article to thank for figuring this one out (did have bad cam synch / code which combined gave me hideous surging):
SITE: Will an O2 Sensor Cause Surging?

Particular paragraph from that article:
"“Normally, your computer will throw a check-engine light and an O2 sensor failure code when the sensor gets bad enough to surge. But this isn't always the case; sometimes, the O2 sensor can trick the computer into thinking that everything's fine. One quick way to diagnose O2 sensor surge is to unplug the O2 sensor's wiring harness. When you do that, the computer will default to a standby program called "open-loop mode," where it completely ignores O2 sensor input and uses its best guess from other sensors. You can expect a check-engine light and a loss of power, but the primary thing you're looking for here is a reduction or elimination of surging. If it goes away when you unplug the O2 sensor, then odds are good that you've found your problem.”
DID I MENTION I'M NOW ECSTATIC AND DON'T HATE MY EXPLORER ANY MORE ??!

Glad you figured it out and thanks for letting us know.👍

NO PROB.... on side note, the upside to "throwing some parts at it" is at least I wont have to worry about those going out anytime soon...and wheeled and dealed using "make offer" on Ebay....they were all 25 years old anyway!

Well done, I'm glad that you are satisfied with it now. Lets hope it goes for many years more before anything needs extra attention.
