1997 Explorer 4x4 SOHC,
I turn my truck on this morning and was letting it idle for a minute, and then I heard a weird noise coming from under the hood, so I got out my phone and recorded the noise. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. Your help will be much appreciated!

Hard to tell from the clip. Since you have the SOHC, I am going to guess it's one of the pulleys (tensioner, idler, etc.). Pull off the belt briefly and see if the noise goes away.

Is it coming from the front or the back of the engine? Narrow it down a little.

It's definitely coming from the front. I'll try to pull off the belt and see what happens .

Yeah, if it is coming from the front I would definitely wager it is a tensioner pulley or something like that (maybe the whole tensioner). Spin each of the pulleys by hand and you can probably feel where the problem is. Should be a simple fix.

I had a similar sound - a bit louder. Changed fan belt and it went away.

Well that sounds awesome. I was hoping it was something simple. Thanks guys!
