Need Front Carrier Info

hello,
who here is the front carrier guru ? i have a 95 sport with the part time 4WD and the carrier has that solenoid thing and its hitting my V8 oil pan. i have almost all the related hardware from a 98 ranger 4x4 that had the vacuum hub set up. but i dont have the carrier what carrier is best to use ? im assuming my CV axles will not work with a different carrier, but id rather buy a pair of axles than develop a hole in the oil pan and eventually i am gonna need the 4WD anyway

When you say carrier are you meaning the gear carrier? If so, then any carry from an explorer or ranger will work. 95-01 explorer, 98-present ranger.

the front differential, the 95 obviously isnt going to work because the oil pan is hitting (or maybe just touching) the disconnect solenoid on the front carrier. thats what i want to get away from, i know the later ones dont have the disconnect solenoid in the front carrier. my question is i guess, are the 96+ front carriers always locked ?? or do some use another means of locking rather than the solenoid ?

So you did a V8 swap and now it’s hitting the vacuum disconnect on the axle???

I would assume that you swapped the tranny and transfer case too. If so you might as well get a front diff from a 98 on Explorer (I think) that has a one piece axle shaft on the right side. This would mean it’s always locked, and the 4wd is only controlled by your TC.

Also, you keep asking about the differential, Its the same on all of the 2nd Gen Explorer fronts. I.E. a Dana 30. I think you are referring to the axle housing. This is the part that is causing your interference.
