Hello everyone just found this board tring to fix my explorer! My 00 explorer is acting up BUT it only does it after driving it while seems like tho. Sitting at stop light it will surge up in down in idle 500-1000 rpms then when you try take off it will sputter real bad then take off or sometimes die... And at highway speeds it has some what of a miss but again it dont do it when you first drive it only after awhile... i dont think its a vaccum leak either as it only seems to do it after driving it awhile and its good and warmed up . BUT you can floor it and still rums fine. Check engine light is on. Went got the code came back as lean rich mixture says control module use the oxygen sensor to calculate airfuel reconized rich lean on bank one only . Its a v6 . Said problem list as fuel pressure or maf oxygen sensor , ignition misfire repair. fuel injector problem. Since it just does it after driving it awhile seems to me a sensor ?? Seems to get worse when you run the ac too. I cleaned the MAF no luck. Any ideas or what it could be ?? Im unemployed so like to fix it myself for lack of money but heading out soon to a new job 2000 miles away so id like it sound before i do so. Thanx for any help

Try your Intake Air Temp sensor. I had a similar problem after installing a Mac intake. It ran fine when cold but idled poorly once hot during city driving. It would also have a hard time starting when hot.

ok i got a new sensor but where is it located at ? I dont see anything up by air box or maf?

Could always just be bad fuel.......:D

It should be located in the plastic intake tube between the maf and throttle body.

nope not there after doing some more reasearch i found that if the MAF has 6 wires to it ( which mine does) that its buildt into that and no sensor ?? If im correct in reading that then anyone got any other ideas what the problem could be ?

ok well broke down took it to a shop they said its the fuel pump !! Been looking around on the net for pumps ,autozone jc whitney, but my questuion is cant i just replace the pump its self ?? I dont need the whole set up do i ?? Cause can get the pump around 100 bucks ..... or you can buy a asembley hanger sending unit pump sock everything for 250 ?? Ive only done one other intank pump and it was on my mustang when i put a walbro 255 in it ! Any pointers here ?? This website has alot good info really glad i found it

You're quite right - the 2000 does NOT have a separate intake air temp sensor - it's built into the MAF. IF the sensor is bad, you have to replace the whole MAF.

You can replace just the pump. There's at least one thread around here on how to do that - do a search and you'll find something.

That explains a few things for me as I looked EVERY where for it & in the end just thought that it was a R/H/Drive thing. Mine was doing the slow chuggy start-up for a couple of weeks then just went away. 3 months later it's starting up again but only when on 1st start up of the day when it's cold. :D

ok found a pump on autoparts warehouse its a hella fuel pump.... $ 103 but says fits mexico buildt ??? Then under that says fits all submodels all engine sizes . Am i safe to assume it will work then ?? I typed in the part number to see if it fits even tho site says it does and comes up for ford vans not suv ?? So are they the same then im guessing ??

Also check your IAC valve, that can cause problems at idle, stalling, and take-off issues.
