New guy needs help 2000 explorer 4.0

I got it. Fix the codes. Find fix hiss. Pass smog !
Also I noticed the my speedometer has a habit of twitching or not working properly while running both fast and slow speeds.
For the 97 you should have a speedometer cable going to a sensor port on the transmission. There should be a small exchangeable speedometer gear. make sure to order the correct one that matches your differentials gear ratio and tire size.

It appears the Speedometer on our model year uses the rear wheel speed sensor mounted on top of the rear axle. you will have to trace this wire or test this sensor

I did find what seems to be a dried up hose that went from the rear axle to basically right under the fuel tank. It was connected to a air compressor hook up and a cable end

That is the rear axle breather. The wires in question should be sitting on top of the "pumpkin" of the rear axle. If looking at the diff cover top right back

Ok . So is that an issue !? Thanks for the help btw
I also changed my fuel filter and the little clip and o rings inside the line won’t keep the gas in. I changed two o rings and still not able to get it to stay clipped.

you might need to change the little metal spring (cage) inside the fuel line fitting as well as the O rings, if it wont stay together
They also sell repair kits which come with a section of new line, an adapter and some hose clamps

If the arrangement of these quick disconnect internal parts is ok and the o-rings are the matching ones,
the fuel filter should slide in deep enough to engage and lock. Otherwise it may be an issue with the lock spring.

The differential vent hose is just there to regulate pressure within the axle. The hose is there to keep water from working its way in by putting it someplace high. you really dont need it for the car to work, but if you live in a flood prone area, I would get some generic hose at oreillys and clip it back up there.

I was able to massage mine back into shape and get the fuel line to not leak, but honestly I had no idea that replacements were available. I would try and grab replacements as bending the clip back isnt the most assuring thing lol.

Yeah I tried bending it i don’t see why putting a bunch o rings the right size wouldn’t work. And let’s say if one of the rings went missing ??

What’s up I’m Cody just bought a 2000 explorer xlt limited I hope u can get the answers I need
I’m having lean codes. I changed the o2 sensor then the codes 0174 0171
I checked I I believe to be the pcv valve. And changed it from a plastic to a metal one but the connector tee that goes ontop of the valve broke. It had two hoses connected to it on to each side of the engine valve covers. Idk if it anthe pcv valve cause I’ve looked everywhere for the one little connector tee and can’t find it. I just be looking for the wrong thing.
