explorer was running fine when I pulled in the driveway. I got out and left it running, when I got back in about 5 minutes later it was still idling but all the gauges in the dash had shutoff along with the radio. I was able to put it in gear and move it but it was running horribly. I shut it off and turned the key back on just to see what it would do but was not surprised to see that it did nothing. wondering if someone might be able to tell me some things to check or if anyone else has experienced same problems.

I agree it does sound electrical. When you say "nothing" do you mean you have nothing at all. No bells, lights, sounds, gauges, etc.

If it is a V8 then check for a cut starter cable:http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=287097

If a V6, check the connections closely on the starter and battery to make sure they are not loose. I would also check voltage at battery and use a battery/load tester.
