I was changing the tire of my 2000 Mercury Mountaineer (AWD) and was pretty surpised to see that there was a rod/joint completely broken off its attachment point.

Whenever I hit a bump or a pothole on the road, I hear a terrible sound--and this must be the reason for that.

Located behind the left (driver's side) wheel.

Thank you very much sir. That was the fastest reply I've ever received!

Damn, normally I give it at least an hour before I even check for a reply. haha

yep, just replaced mine on both x's. inexpensive part, buy something good like Energy Suspension or Moog. don't go to Ford (their design sucks). easy parts to change, but getting old broken/rusted parts off is a PITA.

While changing out the end links go ahead an change the sway bar bushings too. It only takes a few more minutes work, and only a few dollars more.

A Sawzall gets the links off fast.

They're actually quite soft- you can use a hack saw too- cut in about 15 seconds.
