hello,

I own a 03 sport xlt.
I recently purchsed it and it failed the state inspection due to the parking brake. It doesn't seem to be broken but just some adjustment is needed. Is it gonna cost much to fix this? Including labor fee, if it costs like an oil change, I will go to a local brake shop but if it costs more than that, I'm gonna take it to the dealer from which I bought the car since 60 days limited warranty is on it. Well, the brakes are all working fine. They are recently replaced so good as new. Just parking brake failed. Please reply.

Thank you all.

Yeah if it's got a warranty why pay someone to work on it?

I just got back from getting my 96 sport inspected and it failed because of the e-brake as well.
I dont have a warranty on mine so im interested in knowing appx. cost to fix it.

(sorry if im jackin your thread, dahell)

okay

If you just purchased it then bring it back to the dealership anyway. most places will ensure it passes inspection. if they don't then there's something really wrong with the truck.

Justin

I see. I better bring my car to the dealer then. Thanks.

well...

The dealer is not around the area whrer I live.
Round trip to the dealer ship will be 170 miles.
It takes not just gas, but also my time. so.....

As soon as I get my parking brake fixed, I will let you know the approx. cost of that.

Spend about $45 on e-brake pads and hardware.
Expect a shop to charge 1 to 2 hours labor

Where about in Amherst are you? I used to go to school out there (UMASS). There is a ford dealer out in Noho that will pass anything generally. I had a 97 taurus with a check engine light on and holes in the cats that they just always laughed about and gladly put a sticker on. There's also a couple good guys out by The Harp that do work for cheap.

I have to say i find it amazing the failed you for an e-brake. I'm in boston now and my ebrake doesn't work on my 2000 mounty and i had no issues passing.

Did you purchase from a ford dealer? If not call the dealer you purchased from. Maybe they will honor it at another shop.

glad to see ex-umass student

I am currently going to UMASS since 2003, attened for 3 years, left the school for 3 years, and now I came back recently. Where's Noho? Better go there for the next inspection. I still have about 30 days for free reinspection at a local bodyshop. Thanks anyways.

It all depends on what, exactly, is wrong with the parking brake. If it's only an adjustment that's needed, it takes 10 minutes. However, odds are it needs new hardware and/or new rotors and/or cables unless it's used regularly. Costs could be relatively low to as much as several hundred in parts depending on what exactly the problem is.

Noho is northhampton. I think its rt 5. It's like the automile of western mass haha. Out by the autozone, stop and shop and liquors 44
