I'm currently running bfg at's 31/10.5-15 and am looking for a replacement street tire for them. What i'm considering is the bfg radial ta 285/70-15 cause i've always liked the look of those tires. Heres where the question comes in though.

the 31/10.5-15 is rated as follows:
rim width> 7-9
measure rim width> 8.5"
sect width> 10.5"
tread width> 8.5"
overall dia> 30.7"

the 285/70-15 is rated as follows:
rim width> 7.5-9
measure rim width> 8.5"
sect width> 11.5"
tread width> 8.5"
overall dia> 30.8"

so almost identical - what is a "sect width"? and does anyone think these will fit on a std 15x7 rim when they call for 7.5 min?

The section width is the measurment between the bulges of the sidewall (if that makes sence)

they measure the tread width, which is the width of the tread, duh, but you know when you look at a tire head on, the sidewall bulges are a lil wider than the tread thats what they are measuring

ok - my next question, if i'm currently running w/ a 10.5" sec width and it doesn't rub, would 11.5" make any difference??

thanx for the help
todd

you are absolutely correct - however nobody seems to offer a street/sport tread in a "75"
