98 ford ex xlt 4.0l sohc
a buddy has a 97 ex with 5.o l and we cant get the clutch fan off.. anyone have the best and easiest way of doing it? any help would be great, thanks in advance
 






Morning! If it is like the '99 5.0L you can get the fan clutch removal tool through Autozone's Loan A Tool for free. If I remember correctly, the wrench fits on the big nut and you can stop the fan from moving by putting a wrench across the bolts on the front of the fan. If is still isn't loosening up, try spraying some PB Blaster and let it sit on there for a bit.
 






Dittoes on getting a fan clutch removal tool from autozone or the like. One thing though, I went to two different auto stores and while they had the tool, there is one key part that is essentially a large open end wrench and both of the ones I got had the jaws stretched and they did not work. In the end, I went and got a large crescent wrench from harbor freight that I was able to get on the nut and then I was able to break it free.
