After browsing the forum and reviewing all the great posts, I have diagnosed a problem with my 97. Airbag light flashes code 3-2, horn doesn't work, cruise doesn't work, wife heard a "snap" while steering.
BROKEN CLOCK SPRING

Now, here is where I need your help. I brought the Expy into the dealer about 3 weeks ago because of steering related squealing/squeaking. After $950 I left with new lower ball joints, new tie rod ends, and new pitman arm. Could I make a case that the clock spring failure is related and that it is their fault?? If not, what can I expect to pay??

Thanks a ton.

Clocksprings are $85 through fordpartsnetwork.com. Mine is broken also but that's because of a little project I did to my truck. But it was making a scratching noise for a month or so before it broke. It started off scratching because I had the steering shaft off and spun the wheel too many times one way. :D (Don't ask). So I think it could be a possibility that they screwed it up. It might be worth $80 to them just to fix it instead of argue.

eventhough your wife broke it, you may be able to play it off and tell the dealership you just noticed this now aftert hey did service on it, they may eat it for cust. satisfaction....

well here is the thing.
Clock springs DO NOT just break.
What I am saying is it IS the dealers fault.
Some how the spring got out of center. How else could that have happend unless the wheel or the rack got moved out of center.

It is an easy fix. I just gave s step by step some where else here this evening. Regurardless I would stand my ground and get the dealer to take care of it.
