Hi everyone i want to know if anyone has tried to create their own switch for a climate controlled a/c ?

I have a 98 limited with climate control and i can only control the a/c when i want MAX OUTPUT. All other times the a/c comes on when the climate control advises it.

Is there a way to have a swtich to turn the a/c off so i can just have the blower running air though the vents in my X without the a/c turning on and robbing my hp and gas ?

Thanks for all your help.

Same

i have no climate control on my Escort, but a/c come ON when I dont want to. What I was sugested to do is put a switch on the a/c clutch so I can start it when I want. Then you would loose the climate control, you would have to flip the switch when you need a/c. I have not yet done it (time.....no time), but this summer sometime.

Thanks for the post bexplorer

so i splice into the wire at the a/c clutch right ? i know i will loose my "climate control" but when i only want air not a/c it's worth it, by the way when i need a/c i just flip a switch.

Can anyone else give more insight to this procedure . It sounds like the right thing to do but i just want some other ideas or methods.

Bexplorer let me know how yours turns out if you do yours first .

Thanks again

Explanation

Here the explanation I was given Dead Link Removed Like JDraper says, not just splice but powered switch so you can choose when it goes ON or OFF:fire:

GREAT !!!

BExplorer it sounds like you hit the nail on the head. I guess it's the a/c clutch power line that needs the switch . Thanks i'll try it within the month and let you know how it went.

Do you think there is anything else i should be looking out for since i have climate control or is it the same ?

Maybe...

What I'm going to do, is to have a 3 position switch (ON-OFF-ON). One ON will be directly connected to power (12 volt) and the other ON position is going to be the actual wire. I have extended waranty, so if ever they look into my a/c I will flip the switch to that position, so the computer runs the a/c and they wont notice anyting. Maybe you could do something like that if you like to use the climate control at some point. I just need some sunshine, it's been raining and freezing for 10 days now, not a good time to work outside.

another idea

3 position switch sounds good.. Yeah i do want to use my climate control sometimes when the lady is in the truck .

Thanks for the ideas ..
