Down the line I want to swap my stock 4.0L for a 5.0L V8... what I want to know is if there is a better way to accquire one than searching the scrap yards or buying a car with a 5.0 in it. Is there a good place that I can have one built?! Not experienced in engine swapping, any help is appreciated!! Thanks.

the advantage to finding a junk exploder with the 5.0 is you can get all the wiring, accessory drives, tranny etc. Then you could have it built

Magicfan, are you talkin about finding a scrap engine and having it restored?

While it isn't exactly easy, having a complete "donor" car makes this project so much easier. That is what i am doing. I would think paying someone to do the swap could cost some serious $$$. I know I have about 40 hours in my swap so far.

There are many people on this board that know a lot about swaps that can answer questions you may have.

I just mean find an explorer in a junkyard, take the engine and since its out and you have an engine to use I'd go ahead and have it rebuilt with future mods in mind

Trust me. The Best way to do a 5.0L swap into a 4.0L equipped Explorer is to go and purchase at auction or through a wrecker, a 5.0L powered Explorer. But the whole damn truck. And of course you dont want one that is twited like a pretzel.

It may cost you $3500 or $5000 depending, but it will save you in the long run.

Also if you choose a non Explorer 5.0L as your donor make sure to get the short front dress (serpentine belt)
and use the FMS headers.

In order to keep the BW transfer case plan on the expensive advanced adapters conversion, or using a full size tranny and t case with custom mounts.

If you get the entire donor Ex it is mostly a bolt in affair.
I have seen EFI 5.0L converisons done for $1500 and I have seen one done for $15K. Big difference between the two........

Thanks for your help guys, I'm learning more and more every day...
