Hey guys, back from the dead here with my trusty explorer MIA after another transfer case explosion,
97’ XLT, 4.0 SOHC AWD
I saw people can put F150 TC’s in their V8s with better results, I’m looking for that in my 4.0.
I want to explore in my explorer and not have to deal with a dead car every 10,000 miles due to a faulty TC.

I’m looking for part time 2WD and better off-road performance in a more reliable (more efficient?! )
Transfer case.
Any input is probably helpful, I have put a lot of love into this car and I’m pretty frustrated at these detrimental failures leaving me stranded.

You can swap in a manual 1354 case. Direct bolt on swap. Check to see if your 97 has the vss in the case, if so, the swap is even easier. You will have to change the front drive shaft for it, but those are found on any 91-96 4wd explorer. This is a easy modification, and cheap to boot. This case is way more reliable than the 4405 it came with.
