Need help with Check Engine light

My check engine light came on this morning and the V-8 is running like crap. Missing out terribly. Since it's the weekend, is there any way to get the codes out of the computer without the scan tool? I used to drive Mopars and you could cycle the ignition switch to get a primitive set of codes to flash on the light to help with diagnosis. Does this Mercury I'm driving have anything like that? By the way, I'm driving a 98 Mountaineer v-8 AWD.

Do you have autozone or o'rielly's? They will read free. It does require a scanner.

Sorry to say only the first generations (EEC-IV) could do that. OBD-II requires a reader or scanner.
