A locker that's locked all the time is called a spool, they're about 200 bucks. Do a search, there is alot of info on here on lockers.

you can also get mini spools for cheap.

Lincoln or Miller also make a good locker that stays 100% locked all the time.

do they hurt, anything? and while they hurt my gasmilage any?

Hey now, Hobart makes them too!

Acclerated tire wear, more stress on components. But you'll be able to go places you never thought you could.

What these guys mean to say:

You can weld your spider gears, so your open differential becomes a spool. It's cheap and ghetto, but works for a non-street vehcile.

All depends on your meaning of streetable.. :p

when you said "i want one that stays locked all the time" did you mean one that litterally never unlocks what-so-ever or one that is locked all the time until you turn a corner or did you mean one that is unlocked until you engage it by air, cable or electricity.

A normal locker is technically locked all the time except for when you go around a corner, at slow speeds, it will normally Pop out of the locked position which is alot safer.

A spool never comes unlocked even when turning which can be very dangerous.

And there are the lockers which act as limited slips until you fully engage them via air cable or electricity.

how much would one of those lockers cost?

There's a lot of crazy info flying around this thread. A locker that unlocks around turns it an autolocker and they can be installed inside the carrier(powertrax detroit, etc)There are also selectable lockers that you can engage and disengage at will so theyre either open or locked (arb etc). Imho autolockers are more unpredictable than a full spool or a selectable locker. 90% of the time when you're going around a turn the locker is locked anyway so an autolocker doesn't do a whole lot imho.

so your saying a spool is the best bet for my price range?

depends, are you going to do a lot of street driving or offroadin' or both. Is this your daily driver?

If your truck is a daily driver. I would strongly not recommend a spool. You want a full time locker that also disengages. Look for a Detroit. Strong and reliable. They close to $500 to $600. You could check ebay.

im also been lookin in to see which is better for the $.

it a daily driver but i offroad on weekends,

i cant afford a $600 lock, hell i would just get a $400 winch

Pop 4 hun, get a powertrax, easy install, be done with it, your good to go on road and off

I sure wouldn't spool a daily driver. Yes it is a bit expensive but well worth it as I mentioned you can keep your eyes open on ebay or even post a want thread on here. They pop up every now and then. You can get a cheaper locker like a limited slip or EZ locker from detroit. Those are closer to $300.

There are many threads on this web site. Do a search and start reading. There is a lot to learn about lockers.

Also you may want to look into a "lunch box locker". Those you can install yourself. Other lockers you need to have a shop do it.

Spool a DD I am. No biggy. You will be fine. Plus the clutches in the powertrax have been know to fail. Depends on how serious you are too and what you are wanting to accomplish. Spool it.
