Spool a DD I am. No biggy. You will be fine. Plus the clutches in the powertrax have been know to fail. Depends on how serious you are too and what you are wanting to accomplish. Spool it.
Powertrax units do not have clutches

i run a round wiht a welded diff in the reat. with our relatively long wheelbases you hardly notice any tire chirpage.

After owning a lockright for over a year I think a spool will be more streetable than a lockright. Most of the time when you're going to notice the locker, locked the most on the street is when you're making a turn onto a road. You get some chirping of the tires and some hopping. Thats when you want a locker to be unlocked but in most situations like that it's locked because you can't be off the gas merging into traffic. With a 5spd transmission, my truck lurches left everytime I shift gears. I've had the locker slip a tooth driving down the road and the truck will lurch left. The lockright displays some undesirable characteristics on the street that would be alleviated with a spool. Not to mention a spool is alot stronger and is about the same price, but most people will have to have it professionally installed. That's just my 2 cents, most people will probably disagree with me. :)

I think you should look into limited slips, you don't want full locker or selectable, get the one right in the middle - the limited slip. They are right around 350. Also, I don't know if just a locker would save you in a 3 ft mud hole.

Limited slip is great on the pavement but I wouldn't put it in anything other than a street truck. If you do any sort of semi-serious 4wheeling limited slip is worthless.

My lockright and EZ locker are great. There is a slight clicking noise when I go around corners on the street(when it is unlocking), but it is barley noticable. I like that it will unlock, makes for better road and trail manners.

Any auto locker is going to react pretty much the same. Some may be smoother and quieter, but they will all lock and unlock and chirp and hop etc.

is this locker the ez locker you guys are talkin about?

locker

Sorry the lockrite has clutches and or disc. That rotate and lock together in order to engage to locked mode.

I agree completely. I also run a EZ locker and lockright and am very pleased with both. I have a stick shift and when I corner, I usually hold the clutch in and try to coast. If I cannot coast, I give minimal power to the truck throughout the turn. You can get a powertrax lockright for $242 from www.hotrodoffroad.com for the Ford 8.8 which is your rear axle. That is the best price I've found for a lockright. You also get free shipping and I've had a great experience with that retailer. The guy who owns the site is named Dan Brock and he kept constant contact with me to ensure I got my order. If you have any questions about the install hit me up with your questions. You'll love the offroad performance of a locker.

on the ez lockers i know it say for tires up to 33's, is it like that for the lock right? because i will be upgrading to 35's sooner or later and i dont want to have to buy a new locker.

I run a ez locker in the rear axle with 35's and it works great. You wont have a problem with a lockright either. Heck, there's guys who run 37" tires with an ez locker/lockright.

I am really wanting to get an ECTED electric locker. My brother had the stock electric locker on his TRD and it is awesome, totally open to totally locked with push of a button. For those of you who had one installed, what's the general install price for a locker?

I have heard more bad than good about the ECTED.

I'm running an aussie, basically a lockright. On shifts or when getting on the gas, mine pulls a bit to the left or right, really depends on how it feels.
